Yu are being asked t cmplete this rientatin because we received an electrnic FAFSA fr yu indicating yur request fr Financial Aid (FA) at Pima Cmmunity Cllege (PCC). During this rientatin, yu will see hw t review all infrmatin regarding Financial Aid and cmmunicatins frm ur ffice thrugh yur MyPima accunt. This rientatin als highlights changes in the year. PCC students are required t cmplete this Orientatin each year t learn abut the changes and hw these changes impact eligibility.

5 Slide 5: What is my Financial Aid Status? GREEN check mark means yu have fulfilled that requirement RED flag means yu need t take actin n that requirement. The requirements bx indicates if there are actins needed n yur part by shwing flags. If additinal items/dcuments are needed, the flag will indicate what these items are. If the item is hyperlinked, yu can click the requirement t view instructins, access the necessary frm r ther actins. Clicking n the My Financial Aid Messages hyperlink fr the year will give mre detailed infrmatin regarding yur utstanding requirements and Financial Aid infrmatin. The staff als can send yu specific infrmatin n what yu may need t address in any persnal statements etc. Once a requirement is fulfilled, the flag will change t a check mark. It is very imprtant fr yu t check back regularly while we prcess yur infrmatin. Different requirements may apply t different students. Check requirement text fr instructins n requesting IRS dcuments. Fr faster prcessing, all applicants are strngly encuraged t cmplete their FAFSA with the IRS data retrieval tl. This tl allws yu t transfer yur 2013 tax year infrmatin directly frm the IRS. If yu are selected fr verificatin, the IRS data retrieval tl may minimize the amunt f dcumentatin needed t satisfy yur verificatin requirement. If yu are selected and d nt use the IRS data retrieval tl, yu may be asked t submit an IRS tax return transcript, and the verificatin wrksheet. Click the Terms and Cnditins tab. Yu must review and accept the terms and cnditins befre yu can receive any funding. If this screen is blank, yur financial aid award is nt ready. Please refer back t the requirements bx and als review yur messages. Yu will receive a message frm ur ffice advising yu that yur file is cmplete.

11 Slide 11: Award Infrmatin The determining factr in mst aid eligibility is financial need Financial need is determined by calculating the difference between yur Cst f Attendance (COA) and yur Expected Family Cntributin (EFC).

12 Slide 12: Cst f Attendance Cmpnents f COA: Tuitin and Fees Bks Rm and Bard Transprtatin Expenses Persnal Expenses Lan Fees In calculating yur Financial Aid award, we will determine yur cst f attendance. Factrs such as specific prgrams and the number f credits yu are enrlled in will determine yur specific cst f attendance. The cmpnents f yur cst f attendance are listed abve.

13 Slide 13: Expected Family Cntributin Cmmnly knwn as EFC, it is calculated based n infrmatin reprted n yur FAFSA. EFC is what the gvernment estimates that yu and yur family can cntribute t yur cst f attending cllege. EFC is subtracted frm yur COA t determine financial need. Used t determine the amunts and types f aid yu may be eligible t receive. Part f yur Financial Aid award is determined based n infrmatin yu prvide n yur FAFSA. When yu cmplete and submit yur FAFSA, yu will be tld yur Expected Family Cntributin (EFC). This number is prvided t yu and the schls frm the Department f Educatin. It is based n yur FAFSA infrmatin and estimates what yu and/r yur family can cntribute tward yur cllege csts. The lwer the number, the mre assistance yu may qualify fr in awards. The EFC number is then subtracted frm yur cst f attendance (see previus slides) t determine yur financial need and help us determine yur financial aid awards.

When yu cmplete yur FAFSA and are given an Expected Family Cntributin (EFC), we then autmatically determine yur eligibility fr the Pell Grant. The lwer yur EFC number, the greater amunt f Pell Grant fr which yu are eligible. An EFC f zer wuld make yu eligible fr the maximum Pell Grant amunt f $5,730. The higher the EFC number, the lwer the amunt f Pell Grant fr which yu are eligible. An EFC f 5158 r abve wuld mean yu aren t eligible fr a Pell Grant. The amunt f Pell Grant yu will receive per aid year als will be dependent n yur enrllment. Fr example, if yu are enrlled in the fall and spring semesters at full-time enrllment f 12 credit hurs r mre, then yu may be eligible fr the maximum amunt f $5,730. All Federal Pell Grant recipients are eligible t receive 12 full-time semesters r 600 percent, and the calculatin is retractive t include all prir years f receiving Pell Grant.

17 Slide 17: Types f Financial Aid-Campus Based Campus-Based Aid Federal Supplemental Educatin Opprtunity Grant (FSEOG) Arizna Leveraging Educatinal Assistance Partnership (LEAP) Federal Wrk Study (FWS) The next type f grants we will determine eligibility fr is the Federal Supplemental Educatin Opprtunity Grant (FSEOG) and Arizna Leveraging Educatinal Assistance Partnership (LEAP) Prgram. These grants are fr undergraduates with exceptinal financial need. Pell Grant recipients with the lwest expected family cntributins (EFC) will be cnsidered first. Funds are limited and awarded n a first-cme, first-served basis. Please nte that students cannt be awarded bth grants. The Federal Wrk Study prgram at PCC is available t students enrlled in six credit hurs r mre and wh have remaining unmet need after being awarded eligible grants. The prgram is first-cme, firstserved. Students wh cmplete their FAFSA by the pririty deadline at the beginning f April are given pririty. Students can view available Federal Wrk Study jbs n the MyPima, Financial Aid tab in the Federal Wrk Study bx.

This ptin requires a bit f research and wrk n the student s part. The PCC website is a great place t start schlarship searches. 19 Slide 19: Types f Financial Aid - Lans Direct Staffrd Lans Department f Educatin is the lender. Three types f lans Subsidized Unsubsidized PLUS Except fr PLUS, lan payments can be deferred until after graduatin r drpping belw half-time enrllment. PCC des nt autmatically award students lans. Hwever, Direct Staffrd lans are available upn request. The Department f Educatin is the lender f Staffrd lans, als knwn as Direct Lans. There are three types f lans: Federal Subsidized, Federal Unsubsidized and the Federal PLUS r parent lan fr undergraduate students.

A Direct Subsidized lan is a financial need based lan as determined by expected family cntributin and cst f attendance. Subsidized lans will nt accrue interest while yu attend cllege at least part time (six credits r mre). But, it is nly available while yu are within 150 percent f yur prgram f study. Once yu reach the subsidized limit fr yur prgram, yu may lse subsidy n yur existing lans if: yu d nt graduate, and yu cntinue in the same prgram, r switch t a prgram f equal r shrter length.

Amunts yu are eligible fr are based n academic standing (freshmen, sphmre r pst-baccalaureate) and dependency status (independent and dependent as determined by the dependency status questins n the FAFSA). Amunts abve are listed per aid year, but will be less if yu are nt enrlled in the full aid year, such as being enrlled fr fall nly r spring nly. It is imprtant t brrw nly what yu need fr educatinal purpses. Keep in mind the aggregate lifetime amunts, especially if yu plan n transferring t a fur-year cllege.

Lan ffers may be reduced at any time due t Cst f Attendance adjustments and/r enrllment in part-f-term curses. If after reviewing yur Financial Aid award yu decide yu need a Staffrd lan, yu must be enrlled in at least half-time status (six credit hurs r mre. If this is nt yur first student lan, yur previus lans must be in gd standing and nt in default t be eligible fr further financial aid, including lans.

SALT curse is an annual requirement; yu will have t cmplete a curse every year as lng as yu are brrwing at PCC. The curse must be cmpleted with 80 percent r better in rder t satisfy the requirement. Yu may repeat the curse fr better scres. Yu will be required t cmplete a SALT curse every year.

29 Slide 29: Finalizing Lan Applicatin Cmplete tw additinal requirements at the Student Lans website Lan Entrance Cunseling Master Prmissry Nte After yu accept the lans ffered t yu n yur MyPima accunt, yu will cmplete entrance cunseling. Entrance cunseling gives yu imprtant infrmatin abut brrwing and repaying yur student lans. After yu cmplete the entrance cunseling, yu will cmplete yur Master Prmissry Nte (MPN). The MPN is yur agreement with the lender t repay all Staffrd lans guaranteed by the nte. The slide abve prvides the website fr each.

30 Slide 30: Ntes fr Brrwers First time brrwers will have a 30-day delay n disbursement f student lan Brrwers awarded n an academic year (AY) basis (except fr FINAL semester) Disbursement will ccur in tw installments per enrllment perid (semester) 1 st disbursement, immediately after enrllment freeze date (fr traditinal cursewrk) 2 nd disbursement, at the mid-way pint f the enrllment perid Image shwing example f disbursements based n attending hurs. Aid awards will nt be adjusted t accunt fr any registratin ccurring n and beynd this date Aid will pay utstanding charges first Remaining aid will be delivered t student by the Office f Student Accunts in ne f tw ways Check (printed and mailed 3-5 days after appearing in student accunt) E-Refund (depsited 2-3 business days after appearing in student accunt) Aid will be disbursed t yur PCC student accunt n the apprpriate disbursement date based n when yur curses begin. Check yur schedule fr start dates. Tuitin, fees and any utstanding charges will be paid. Any remaining funds will be refunded t yu. E-Refund is the fastest way t receive these funds. Paper refund checks can take several business days t be mailed, can be lst in the mail and must be depsited in the bank, meaning yur funds may nt be available immediately. With E-Refund the funds are depsited t the bank within three business days and are immediately available fr use.

If yu d nt enrll full time, yur aid will be re-calculated t reflect yur accurate enrllment. The level f yur enrllment is determined after the drp/add deadline f the 16-week traditinal curse fr each semester. Yur enrllment n that day will prvide the Financial Aid ffice with yur budget and award fr the entire semester. Any changes after this date will nt be cnsidered fr financial aid increases.

37 Slide 37: Enrllment Factrs Return t Title IV Students receiving financial aid wh have cmpletely withdrawn frm all classes (fficially r stp attending curses) will be required t return all unearned aid as determined by the withdrawal date If nt fficially withdrawn, unearned aid will be determined by the instructr s recrded last day f attendance Recalculatin/Cancellatin f Aid Students receiving financial aid wh fficially drp r wh never attend curses that they register fr will have their aid recalculated up t the full amunt. Leaving a class prir t the add/drp deadline will result in a drp and can result in recalculatin f yur financial aid. Meaning, yu will we financial aid back. After the drp deadline, leaving a class fficially r unfficially will result in a withdrawal. This may als result in wing mney back and it will als affect yur academic prgress standing. Nn-attendance may prmpt an instructr t drp yu frm yur curse. Instructrs are required t reprt attendance at certain times within the semester. If yu stp attending and/r the instructr drps yu, yu may be required t pay yur financial aid back.

The exact GPA yu must maintain depends upn hw many credits yu have attempted. Cmpletin rate 67 percent Divide number f cmpleted credits by number f credits attempted: 9 cmpleted / 12 attempted = 75 percent (0.75) Timeframe 150 percent f ttal credits needed fr prgram Example: Degree Requirements 60 credits x 150 percent = 90 credits NOTE: Repeat cursewrk as well as F, W and I grades adversely affect prgress. Students may appeal IF dcumentable extenuating circumstances exist If yu lse yur gd standing status due t nt meeting the three cnditins f SAP, the fllwing semester yu will be placed n a warning term. Yu may still receive financial aid during this term. During this term, yu must attempt t regain gd academic standing and be careful with W, I and IP grades as these adversely affect yur prgress. At the end f the warning term, failure t meet the cnditins f SAP will result in a lss f financial aid eligibility and will require an appeal fr further financial aid.
