2 CLOUD MARKET SUMMARY The Cloud computing market is growing rapidly. With many organizations starting to benefit from the Cloud, companies of all sizes should evaluate the potential fit. Cloud computing is gaining importance for the following reasons: Economic, social, technological and environmental trends are favourable to a further extension and broader adoption of Cloud computing. Policy makers are actively addressing the impact of Cloud computing on security, privacy, location and ownership of data. The Cloud computing industry is growing sharply with a projected CAGR of 24% for the period. While new innovative and successful vendors are emerging, traditional vendors such as SAP and Oracle are also investing massively in developing and acquiring on demand solutions. In the SaaS segment, the strongest markets in terms of size and growth are Content, Communication and Collaboration (CCC), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Integration-as-a- Service, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Supply Chain Management (SCM). 4 CLOUD STORAGE In a nutshell Cloud storage is a model of networked enterprise storage where data is stored not only in the user's computer, but in virtualized pools of storage which are generally hosted by third parties, too. Hosting companies operate large data centers, and people who require their data to be hosted buy or lease storage capacity from them. Cloud storage services may be accessed through a web service application programming interface (API), a cloud storage gateway or through a Web-based user interface. The number of global consumers using cloud services after the first six months hit more than 375 million, or about three-quarters of the estimated total of 500 million by year-end. While no firm numbers exist to show the extent of the cloud in 2011 because it was relatively new and untested, best estimates put global subscribers then at approximately 150 million. Subscriptions to either free or paid cloud services will continue to climb in the years ahead, jumping to an estimated 625 million next year, and then doubling over the course of four years to reach 1.3 billion by 2017, as shown in the figure below (IHS isupli).

Most of the services will require the creation of different user accounts and management of different services, which generates a significant consumption of time and admin resources. Easy to move backup from one provider to another (cheaper price, better service, better geograhical location due to legal reasons etc. SMEs can initially start with internal file exchange service, then : Expand to other types of data. Build an open API for partners to build ontop of. Expand to other types of services than data exchange. E.g. Long term storage, database solutions, business intelligence (big data analysis) etc. After integrating their Switch Service, Enterprises may opt to expand to a Switch Platform as described next.
