1 Product Data Sheet BEA AquaLogic Integrator Agile integration for the Enterprise Build, Connect, Re-use BEA AquaLogic Integrator delivers the best way for IT to integrate, deploy, connect and manage process-driven services inside and outside the enterprise. It combines the power and flexibility of BEA WebLogic Integration for application and process service enablement with the high-performance stateless mediation of BEA AquaLogic Service Bus. Overview Businesses strive to stay ahead of competitors and deliver increasing value while responding to unforeseen occurrences, from consolidation to changing market dynamics to regulatory and compliance pressures. To be agile and cost-effective, they must bridge the technology gaps between people, processes, applications, and data. Enterprise integration is the key to bridging these gaps. It addresses the challenges of accessing, orchestrating, transforming, and routing disparate events, messages, and data inside and outside the enterprise. It does so by delivering a flexible IT infrastructure designed to accelerate responsiveness to constantly changing business needs. Enterprise integration comprises three components data access, service integration, process integration and service enablement. BEA AquaLogic Integrator delivers the ability to integrate, deploy, and manage process-driven services inside and outside the enterprise in a single solution. When deployed with BEA AquaLogic Data Services Platform, BEA AquaLogic Integrator provides a total enterprise integration solution for SOA environments. Service enablement The constant tension between business requirements and IT capabilities is only amplified by the need for faster time-to-value. BEA AquaLogic Integrator makes it possible to quickly build adaptable, service-oriented environments. Web services are natively built, extended, and integrated at the enterprise-class level with BEA AquaLogic Integrator. Processes can be exposed as Web services with a few clicks. Internal and third-party Web services can be invoked from processes, enabling dramatic productivity improvements and increasing adaptability. Process integration BEA AquaLogic Integrator makes it possible to design, deploy, connect, and manage 100-percentstandard automated processes and composite applications. Users can leverage data or process
2 Product Data Sheet BEA AquaLogic Integrator logic from mainframes and other legacy data sources or from packaged and custom applications. BEA AquaLogic Integrator integrates existing enterprise systems, cross-enterprise applications, and human decision makers for simple exception handling and approvals. Process design makes it possible to graphically map wide ranges of processes that access application functionality and provide user interaction inside and outside an organization. The integrated process design environment allows for rapid drag-and-drop construction; integration project participants can rapidly assemble and automate processes through the same interface, greatly accelerating service creation. Developers can easily expand on such process definitions with fine-grained process logic and transactional control, defining interactions with applications, data sources, systems, etc for greater control. Process automation delivers fully integrated and automated processes spanning systems, data sources, and users. Through rapid and highly scalable testing and deployment of processes, a business can rely on fully automated processes, managed exception handling, reduced data re-entry, atomicity of business transactions, and comprehensive state awareness. Process monitoring provides visibility into working processes, information, and events inside and outside the organization. This delivers transparency to administrators of composite applications with information available to inside the services that comprise the application. Graphical displays of end-to-end process states make it possible to measure progress and performance against service level agreements, while process instance monitoring provides fine detail and allows users to terminate, modify, or suspend problematic processes. Administrators can proactively monitor events and receive automatic notification of exceptions for handling by human decision makers. Simple Exception Handling and Approvals enables people to use the Web to actively collaborate in processes. Point-and-click Web interfaces for work lists enable task assignments and status tracking. The system supplies comprehensive capabilities for user, group, and role management, intelligently routing process tasks to the right person with the right skills at the right timeenhancing organizational responsiveness. The BEA AquaLogic Integrator provides process and service integration to enterprise integration solutions for SOA environments. 3 business user experience is also enhanced by BEA AquaLogic Integrator s full interoperability with BEA WebLogic Portal for delivering custom-fit and process portals and with BEA AquaLogic Data Services Platform for aggregated data views. Service integration BEA AquaLogic Integrator includes a stateless, high-performance intermediary built to handle the demands of an enterprise SOA. Service decoupling between service clients (service consumers) and business services (service providers) eliminates costly point-to-point service integrations, which limit IT s ability to efficiently and quickly deploy services that support SOA initiatives. Message interactions or flows between heterogeneous service consumers and providers are rapidly configured through dynamic protocol brokering, intelligent routing, and transformation. Inherent differences (such as transports, security policies, and message formats) are mediated between service clients and business service endpoints without requiring changes to the end services themselves. Changes to service integration relationships and policies can be implemented dynamically, even at run time, through configuration rather than code. This allows customers to rapidly evolve service architectures with respect to security, service location, service version, availability and responsiveness, data formats, monitoring, and transports and communications. Flexible service registration provides the ability to configure and provision services locally, with local access and browsing, while delivering information for dependency tracking across services, schemas, transformations, service interfaces, and Web service policies. BEA AquaLogic Integrator can efficiently import resources from any UDDI V3-compliant registry, including BEA AquaLogic Service Registry, as well as from other non-uddi sources including BEA Workshop for WebLogic Platform. Extensibility and adaptive connectivity provide investment protection with the ability to incorporate complex or customized logic into service interactions, extending SOA to legacy environments and leveraging customer investments in existing infrastructure. BEA AquaLogic Integrator broadens Powerful and flexible process and service integration-delivered to suit the needs of the organization. 3
4 Product Data Sheet BEA AquaLogic Integrator the number of out-of-the-box supported transports beyond JMS and Web service to include support for EJB/RMI,file, ftp, SMTP, native Tuxedo ATMI, and customer-defined custom transports. Security and access policies can be simply configured at the message and transport level. A common security policy can be registered as a proxy service provider and applied easily across multiple services. BEA AquaLogic Integrator supports the flexible application of security policy, either applying policy to messages the service bus is mediating or supporting simple pass-through of service endpoint security policy. For extensibility, security services provided by integrated third-party providers are supported, including BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Security. Governance of integrated services at design and runtime automates synchronization and notification capabilities with UDDI V3 registries. Services can be published to UDDI automatically once created or changed, taking advantage of the registry s runtime governance workflow and approval capabilities. Reliability and scale are required by organizations implementing enterprise-class SOA environments. Architects have the ability to deploy to a single server for simplicity or a cluster of servers for enterprise-level scalability. Administrative costs are contained through centralized administration of the clustered domain. Configuration and service metadata is propagated automatically to all managed servers in the cluster for fast local retrieval. Monitoring metrics are aggregated to the dashboard for a comprehensive view of cluster-wide health and availability. Administration and management BEA AquaLogic Integrator offers Web-based run-time management and administration analytics, ensuring that a process, service, or infrastructure is running and performing at peak levels. Processes can be monitored and managed through a simplified, secure, browser-based administration console. Users can manage process flows, message flow events, work lists, application views, and trading partners. Alerts are triggered on violations and may begin either automated or operator-initiated responses to rule violations via flexible mechanisms including notifications, triggered JMS messages, triggered BEA AquaLogic Integrator processes, Web service invocations, SNMP traps, and administrative console alerts. The management console supports flexible drill-down from summary pages to errors, execution time, success and failure ratios, service usage, and other details. Built on the best BEA AquaLogic Integrator is built on and includes BEA WebLogic Server. Its services, processes, and mediation inherit all the reliability, scalability, security, and extensibility of the world s leading application server. The highly available, self-correcting BEA WebLogic Server infrastructure maintains application state even during a system failure. The innovative inmemory replication architecture allows systems to automatically failover without affecting the success of an integration solution. Platform and requirements BEA AquaLogic Integrator supports a wide variety of platforms. For specific requirements visit e-docs.bea.com/platform/suppconfigs/index.html.
