3 Some definitions 2 "An innovation is the implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good or service), or process, a new marketing method, or a new organisational method in business practices, workplace organisation or external relation. The minimum requirement for an innovation is that the product, process, marketing method or organisational method must be new (or significantly improved) to the firm. Source: ndex_en.htm " A product innovation is the market introduction of a new or significantly improved good or service with respect to its capabilities, user friendliness, components or sub-systems. A good is usually a tangible object such as a smartphone, furniture, or packaged software, but downloadable software, music and film are also goods. A service is usually intangible, such as retailing, insurance, educational courses, air travel, consulting, etc

4 Some definitions 3 A process innovation is the implementation of a new or significantly improved production process, distribution method, or supporting activity. An organisational innovation is a new organisational method in your enterprise s business practices (including knowledge management), workplace organisation or external relations that has not been previously used by your enterprise. A marketing innovation is the implementation of a new marketing concept or strategy that differs significantly from your enterprise s existing marketing methods and that has not been used before. It requires significant changes in product design or packaging, product placement, product promotion or pricing.

5 4 What the project is about What is it producing on impact and innovation Is the expected impact academic / commercial / social / others Describe the key innovation(s) developed by the project Which metrics are used to measure impact? Who are the targeted end users, how dissemination activities will reach these end users, and how can end users access the results of the project (either trial or purchase)?

6 Use of results 5 Comment on whether the plan for the use of foreground, including any updates, is still appropriate. Comment also on the plan for the exploitation and use of foreground for the consortium as a whole, or for individual beneficiaries or groups of beneficiaries, and its progress to date. Describe the ownership of the innovations developed (or under development) in the project. Is there a single owner, or is ownership spread over several partners? How is intellectual property managed?

7 6 Use of results Describe the steps done or foreseen to use project results. Examples: technology transfer, pilot project, private capital investment, public investment, business plan, prototyping, start-up or spin-off. Is there a specific commitment (e.g. industrial or business plan) from one or more partners to use project results beyond project duration? Describe the time horizon in order to arrive at commercial exploitation of the project results.

8 7 Dissemination Assess whether the dissemination of project results and information (via the project website, publications, conferences, etc.) has been adequate and appropriate. Indicate specific actions taken to disseminate and communicate the innovation(s) developed. Indicate the metrics used to assess the impact of these dissemination actions. Indicate whether potential users and other stakeholders (outside the consortium) are suitably involved (if applicable). Explain how they are actually engaged. Describe what is needed in order to fulfil the innovation potential of the project. Examples: investor introduction, business plan development, expanding on other markets, legal advice, mentoring, incubation, partnership. Describe also any specific roadblocks preventing the fulfilment of project s innovation potential.
