3 Getting Started This guide provides information necessary for installing the Liebert SiteScan Web software. System Requirements for the Liebert SiteScan Web Server Liebert SiteScan Web should have a dedicated server. Running other server applications, especially Web server applications such as Apache, on the same machine can cause conflicts. The following minimum system configuration is recommended for the Liebert SiteScan Web server: Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003 Microsoft Internet Explorer v7.0 or later 17-inch analog flat panel display 2.0GHz Intel processor 2GB of RAM 80GB hard drive 16X DVD-ROM Drive USB 2.0 Ports: 2 100Mbps integrated Ethernet Keyboard and mouse 1

4 System Requirements for the Liebert SiteScan Web Client Workstation The following minimum system configuration is recommended for Liebert SiteScan Web client workstations: Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP Microsoft Internet Explorer v7.0 or later 500MHz Intel processor 128Mb RAM 10Mb of free hard disk space available for caching images Keyboard and mouse Network connection to the server (for example, an Ethernet network card or a dial-up modem connection) 2

5 Network Bandwidth Requirements The Liebert SiteScan Web server provides dynamic web pages made of graphic files and JavaScript programs. Bandwidth requirements should be no greater than those of a typical internet user. Some typical packet sizes are: Data Type Packet Size, Bytes Digital Trend 39,033 Analog Trend 41,940 Graphic (Variable) 72,658 Events 119,548 Download Module 404,291 Logon 455,597 Live Logic Page 2,105,204 To estimate the bandwidth consumed, multiply the number of simultaneous users by the size of the data type those users will be viewing. 3

6 Installation Before beginning installation: If preparing a system for internationalization, refer to Internationalization for Liebert SiteScan Web in the help file for more information before proceeding. Exit all programs. NOTE: The license must be registered when the Liebert SiteScan Web program is installed on a server. See the Liebert SiteScan Web help file for more information. To install Liebert SiteScan Web: 1. Insert the Liebert SiteScan Web CD into the server s CD Rom drive. 2. Open the Liebert SiteScan Web Server and Tools\Windows folder and run the setup.exe file. 3. Follow the prompts in the installer program. Liebert SiteScan Web software need not be installed on a client workstation to access Liebert SiteScan Web through a browser requires only using Internet Explorer 7.0. NOTE: For the client workstation to run Windows XP, the Microsoft Java Virtual Module for the Internet Explorer browser must be downloaded and installed. 4

7 Getting Help A help file is available for the Liebert SiteScan Web monitoring software. The help file can be launched from the Help folder on the CD that comes with the software. To launch the help file, double click the file named helpset.htm. The help file encompasses all of the Liebert software programs and more general information on other subjects, such as an introduction to BACnet and how to operate a new system using the Liebert SiteScan Web suite of tools. This help file is structured for use as a reference tool or as a tutorial. 5
