3 Instructional Leaflet I70002E Gateway 101e setup Mounting the gateway Site the gateway within 6 feet of the point being measured For monitoring PV only, it is possible to mount the gateway within 6 feet of the main panel or within 6 feet of a dedicated solar subpanel For monitoring PV and demand, mount the gateway within 6 feet of the main panel only Connecting to the Internet Gateway 101E requires a broadband Internet connection to communicate; make sure the Internet connection is continuous (i.e., the router is not regularly turned off) Connect the gateway to a DHCP router (LA) with a CAT5 Ethernet cord otee: Maximum patch cable length is 300 feet. DO OT USE the lower left-hand knockout for the Ethernet cable. Additional connections via Ethernet-over-Power (EoP) adapters are available. See Figure 2. Wiring Diagram for Demand-Monitoring CTs Connecting the gateway to a power source The gateway should be connected to a two-pole breaker of 20A or less using 12 AWG solid wire For revenue grade accuracy, the gateway must be powered by a 208/240V supply (see Figure 3). 5 Instructional Leaflet I70002E Inverter direct monitoring (single inverter) Using shielded twisted pair cable, wire the inverter to the terminal block ote: Use shielded twisted pair cable for all communication lines; using unshielded cable can cause communication issues. Limit unshielded portions of shielded bale to 1 inch at each terminal. Shielded cable should not extend more than 300 feet between the gateway and the first inverter, or between inverters. Run communication line in a separate conduit from AC and DC power lines. Ensure that there is good contact at all terminals (secure all wires at the terminal blocks and ensure that there is metal-to-metal contact). See Figure 4. 7 Instructional Leaflet I70002E Troubleshooting guide Verifying power connection Flashing green Activity light The gateway has initialized correctly Activity light off The gateway does not have power. Check the voltage and power line and the dedicated breaker for proper wiring Solid red Error light There may be an issue with the gateway. Power cycle the gateway and contact EatonCare at 855-ET-SOLR ( ) for additional troubleshooting Verifying Internet connection Solid green Local light The gateway has been assigned an IP address by the local router Local light off An IP address has not been assigned. Check the physical connection and verify the local network settings Solid green Host light The gateway is connected and sending data to the Web server Flashing green Host light The gateway is uploading backlogged data. The light will be solid when backlog finishes uploading Host light off There is no host connection. Check the customer s network security settings Power cycling the gateway etwork connection issues can often be resolved by power cycling the gateway. To do so, press the Reset button in the lower left hand corner of the unit for approximately 1 second Wait 2 minutes for the gateway to reconnect and complete the initialization process If power cycling the gateway resolves the network connection issues, it is possible that the site was not initially set up properly with all equipment Data transmission It may take up to 2 hours to transmit data from the local PV system to the SolarOSE portal Configuration changes to the gateway can take up to 30 minutes to take effect online Miscellaneous In the instance that the gateway is set up properly, yet no data or equipment is viewable from SolarOS, the MAC ID may be incorrect. Verify that the MAC ID on the gateway is the same as the value listed on the site configuration. Verifying CT connection Solid green LED The gateway is reading positive values from the PV CT Solid red LED The gateway is reading negative values from the CT. Verify that the CT is correctly wired and facing the correct direction on Solid green HCT LED More power is being consumed by the building than is being produced by the PV system Solid red HCT LED The PV system is producing more power than is being consumed on-site or CTs are backward. Turn the inverter(s) off while testing the HCT LED to verify correct installation 7
