These changes have specific implications for the life cycle of an image following capture. With enterprises seeking to reduce costs and improve business process workflows, there is significant opportunity for vendors to increase their management of these paper-intensive business processes. The lens of this study will be focused on business processes as a means of examining capture environments, with three primary goals in mind. First, this research will uncover high-volume capture trends within business processes, vertical markets, and across different types of capture environments. Secondly, it will verify how effectively image life cycles enable automation within the classification, data capture, data validation, and delivery phases of a document capture operation. Finally, the study will identify services and technology revenue opportunities that target business process gaps and inefficiencies. Project Objectives The study s specific objectives are organized around three core areas of analysis: the market direction and developments around document capture; a vertical business process and industry analysis, and; an analysis determining technology and services use and impact. Market Direction: Analyze trends within centralized/distributed, on-site/off-site, and lockbox/mailroom environments. Examine capture volumes and sources, including paper, electronic, and network folders. Define preferred software pricing & delivery models, and interest in and& engagement with outsourcing. Business Process: Analyze image life cycle across specific business processes, such as accounts payable/receivable, customer onboarding, customer correspondence, contract management, and claims processing. Identify the extent to which document capture operations are integrated into business processes and trigger automated workflows, while also uncovering workflow gaps and inefficiencies. Identify the impact of outsourcing on business process efficiency and automation. Technology & Services: Examine why customers utilize cloud-based offerings and what types they prefer (public, private, hybrid).. Explore strategic planning initiatives and investment planning priorities. Size and forecast the outsourced capture services revenue opportunity by environment.

3 Summary of Research Goals & Objectives Market Analysis Methodology InfoTrends will conduct a three pronged analysis approach that encompasses extensive primary research and secondary research in key industries. Primary Research Primary research will involve a detailed quantitative survey, as well as qualitative interviews. Enterprise Survey We will conduct a web-based quantitative survey of 575 businesses within the United States. The primary audience for this research will be large enterprises (1,000+ employees), with a smaller sample of medium-sized enterprises (500 to 999 employees) also being surveyed. Survey respondents will come from a variety of vertical markets; however, they will all be knowledgeable of highvolume capture operations that are part of the business operations (insourced or outsourced) and be influencers in IT/ operational decisions, including the decision to outsource. Qualifying types of document capture operations include on-site or off-site scanning operations, lockbox services, corporate mailrooms, and distributed capture operations. Although we are not specifically sampling by vertical market, we expect that the requirement of high-volume document capture operations and the sample size will drive substantial response volume within the Banking, Financial Services, Healthcare, and Insurance verticals. Additionally, the survey instrument will be designed to delve into a range of specific business processes, as well as probe into all capture environments represented within the sample.

4 In-depth Interviews Our qualitative research will include at least 15 in-depth phone interviews with enterprise respondents, service providers, and technology vendors. The majority of the interviews will be conducted with enterprises with highvolume capture environments. These discussions will build on insight gained from the surveys, covering current and future state of imaging operations, the life cycle of scanned images, specific business process insights, and services and technology trends.
