Direct supervision is provided by the clinical instructor. Prerequisites: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Paramedic to RN Option Tractwith nonencumbered paramedic license; or Administrative Approval. o-requisite: RNSG 1517, RNSG Department: ourse Learner Outcomes: As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business industry. This transition course provides the Paramedic to RN student the opportunity to study the concepts and principles necessary to perform basic, intermediate or advanced nursing skills; Demonstrate competence in the performance of nursing procedures. 5. The failure by the nursing professional student to meet any part of the above standards will cause action to be taken by the clinical instructor, program chair and Division of Nursing and Allied Health Dean. The minimal action to be taken will be a written report and reprimand. The maximum action may be immediate dismissal from the course. The action taken will be dependent on the nature of the incident and potential or real threat to client safety and wellbeing. Refer to the ADN Student Handbook. The final course grade is calculated by averaging the scores then divided by the number of clinical for the entire semester and using the following point grading scale. Grade Scale: At the end of the course, student will earn a grade based on the following scale: LETTER GRADE POINTS EARNED A % B 83-89% 75-82% D 65-74% F 64% and BELOW Student must achieve a grade of 75.0 or better in the course. The numerical equivalent is rounded off at 0.5 or above for grades of 75 only. For example, 89.5 would become 90, and 92.2 would become 92; 74.5 remains 74. Program Progression: Student must have a 75% or above course average for RNSG 2121, RNSG 2331 and RNSG 2163 to progress to the RNSG Page 6

7 If the instructor determines that a student has not had the opportunity to earn points for a given clinical indicator the item will not be applicable for that week. The clinical instructor will document the reasons for a letter grade of in student s clinical performance in the clinical evaluation tool or in the clinical warning form, refer to retention specialist as deemed necessary. Unsafe practice is defined as: 1. Failure to carry out the requirements, including nursing care plans/. 2. Engaging in activities judged to be unsafe for students level and clinical assignment based on course objectives. Engaging in any activity that has the potential to place the client in physical or emotional jeopardy. Program Progression: 1. The following will be included in determining progression: a. Achieve a final course grade of 75 or higher in this course, RNSG 1517 and Pharmacology in order to progress to Level II. b. Any student can be called in front of the Admissions and Progressions ommittee regarding their professional conduct, character, and ethical behaviors demonstrated in the program regardless of grade in the course. Behaviors unbecoming of the nursing profession can result in dismissal from the program. 2. Students are required throughout the ADN Program to remain current in the following areas: a. ardio-pulmonary resuscitation--health are Provider Basic Life Support (PR HP- BLS) certification by the American Heart Association. b. liability insurance c. PPD (repeated every year) or chest X-ray every two (2) years d. up-to-date immunizations of diphtheria, tetanus, measles/mumps/rubella, polio, chicken pox d. ompletion of hepatitis B series or titer. e. 8 STUDENT POLIIES Students must review the Student Handbook (on-line at and sign the attached sheet stating they have read the attendance, cheating, professional appearance, Statement Regarding Board Regulation for License Eligibility; Article 4519a and 4525 policy. Students must be in appropriate uniform and wear ST ID badge at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNTIONAL ABILITIES: All nursing students in the ADN program must possess the following general qualities which include: ritical thinking, communication skills, sound judgment, emotional stability and maturity, empathy, physical and mental stamina, and the ability to learn and function in a variety of didactic and clinical setting. ATTENDANE: linical attendance is required for the completion of clinical learning objectives. The students are required to attend clinical at the assigned time and location. Absences that total more than 10% of the scheduled clinical hours may result in dismissal from the program. See the Student Handbook. STUDENT SHEDULE: Students will be assigned in medical-surgical units. Agency assignments will be made by faculty and are subject to change throughout the semester. PREP WORK/ASSIGNMENTS: ompleting prep work/assignments prepares you for the scheduled clinical learning experience. Students are required to submit a Late oursework Form, found in your Student Handbook, with any assignment that is not submitted by due date and time. Forms will be placed in student s personal file.
