Opportunistic Engagements Pursue cloud engagements that meet pressing needs in a "one by one" fashion. 13 The Basics MiServer is a virtual server environment with option to include a managed Windows 2003 or 2008 Operating System. Red Hat 6 Linux support will be available in early Users that don't need a managed OS service can choose to install and manage their own OS. MiDatabase is a managed MS SQL 2012 database operating on a managed Windows platform. MySQL support will be available in early 2013.

15 How do these services compare to VaaS? They provide higher level managed services so units can spend less time on routine system maintenance. They include support to migrate your existing servers into the new services. Includes new options for backup and recovery

We are accepting some orders now, but we expect to migrate most units when they move to MiWorkspace We'll work with VaaS customers to migrate their servers sometime in 2013 We expect there is a backlog of orders, so we may not be able to meet all requests immediately, but when you order, we'll inform you when to expect your server

17 Approach to Setting Rates... Presume this will be a toll service Calculate the full costs of the service Keep pricing model as simple as possible Support the overall effort to move commodity services into shared services

23 It may be that a service isn't heavily used or doesn't bring as much value as it once did, so it's time to retire it Do we really still need to run all the servers that we've run in the past? Don't just assume that everything you run today needs to move to MiServer/MiDatabase It may be that other services can take their place

24 What about the hardware we have recently purchased? Look at total cost of ownership to determine your next steps You may determine that it makes more sense to continue to run the hardware until end-oflife, or... It may be more cost effective to re-purpose or sell equipment than continue to run it

25 What about services that cannot move to MiServer & MiDatabase? Make sure the factors that make the service a poor candidate for MiServer & MiDatabase align with your department's current needs For example, it may be a poor candidate because it runs an unusual operating system. Is that OS really still needed, or is it just a vestige of earlier times?

26 When should we start moving to MiServer & MiDatabase? Most units will want to move MiServer & MiDatabase when when they move to MiWorkspace You may want to move some services earlier to avoid hardware purchases

27 What information do you feel you need -- that maybe you don't have yet -- to help you make a decision about using MiServer & MiDatabase?
