It has been a hectic year, filled with significant changes, challenges and achievements. More and more customers are taking note of a business environmental credentials according to a recent survey we conducted online. To a larger extend businesses are also becoming more socially responsive in addressing pollution, waste disposal and putting in numerous efforts to keep in-step with environmental sustainability. With funding support from the Western Australian Waste Authority through the Landfill levy fund we are continuously influencing business attitudes for environmental performance. Members are embracing green marketing strategies and exploiting these as a source of competitive advantage.green Stamp remains the only environmental program in WA with a direct link to the Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) sector as well as offering hands on support to businesses. Given that SMEs often lack time and resources to implement environmental management practices, the Green Stamp program continues to offer a custom made program for participating businesses. During the past year we have also engaged with Local government agencies to acknowledge the commitment by accredited businesses and some councils have taken a step further in recognising the good efforts by offering environmental awards. We would also want to extend a warm welcome Glen Schneeloch who joined the MTA Green Stamp recently. A big thank you also goes out to the previous MTA Green Stamp Coordinator Zamal Hossain for the good work in promoting Green Stamp

2 Communicating your Green Credentials Telling people about your environmentally sustainable business initiatives, no matter how big or small is a great way to open your business up to customers who make their purchasing decisions based on the sustainability of a business. So make sure you re telling your employees and customers alike about all the great stuff you are doing. Appropriately and accurately tailored sustainability messages can give you an edge when talking to customers. Businesses with a limited advertising and marketing budget should also consider where to invest their money in order to best communicate to customers and potential customers. The best way to ensure your business and its environmental credentials have maximum exposure among potential customers is to spread your advertising and marketing budget across multiple active information sources. In times where carbon tax, emissions trading and sustainability have dominated the political speech, it has become clear that the green discussion is one which will not go away. Here are some of the ways to help you reduce your carbon footprint as small to medium enterprises. 4 Central Institute of Technology (Printing), Art Portfolio receive Green Stamp and Sustainable Green Print Certification We are pleased to announce that Central Institute of Technology, Art Portfolio have become the first educational Institute to receive Green Stamp Certification in Western Australia. Central Institute of Technology (CIT) is pleased to be a participant in the Green Stamp Program and the Sustainable Green Print. The Art Portfolio at CIT is the first educational institute in WA to meet the environmental standards required to become a Green Stamp Accredited business. As the major training provider of printing and prepress apprentices this achievement is evidence of the sustainable practices that the institute has strongly believed in for some years now. We can be assured that our future printing trades people will bring this learning into all the workplaces they will attend in their future career in printing. We worked with the Art Portfolio personnel who went to great lengths to achieve the two certifications. As part of environmental stewardship the printing department has made and continues to make and initiate positive environmental practices into their printing processes, use of chemicals with less VOCs and optimum use of paper amongst a range of other initiatives. They have also introduced practices in the labs which are less energy intensive, water intensive and chemical intensive. The main objective was to reflect on our practices and look at ways to recycle as much as possible and manage all waste said Digby. Digby and the Art Portfolio team are continually striving to conduct business in the most sustainable and environmentally responsible way possible. They do this because they see the benefits of doing the right thing by the environment. We are constantly reviewing our processes to help us reduce our environmental footprint. A big part of their success however, comes from the dedication of all staff, students, and great commitment from the Environmental Representative, Gavin Cousins, for being diligent in ensuring the Art Portfolio is environmentally responsible. In this regard environmental consciousness is really a part of the culture in the Art Portfolio. When everyone is all onboard and feel that they are really making a difference, it is really easy to be green, Digby said. 7 Q&A Time with Eunice Zisani Q What does your role involve? A Working with Business Owners to understand environmental issues with related to their products and services and setting up environmental management plans to assist them in managing and reducing their environmental footprint. My role requires a high level of organisational skills; promoting small to medium enterprises to achieve environmental best practices in their day to day operations, carrying out environmental audits, management of the certified businesses database; funding proposals for support of the program; planning my audits. I concurrently carry out audits for the Printing and Cleaning Industries and I have realised that allotting an equal amount of time to each industry keeps me on track and on target. This allows for diversity in my daily work and it keeps me motivated and creative. Q What is the favorite part of your Job? A Variety is the spice of life!!having the opportunity to work with enthusiastic business owners and staff who are dedicated to improving their environmental performance by reducing their footprint. Since joining the Green Stamp Program in 2008, a range of exciting and challenging experiences continue to be a great source of drive that have helped me grow and develop both professional and personally. Q In your spare time, what do you like to do? A I am also a wife and mum! I have a toddler. He keeps me busy as a bee, but when I have some down-time I like to spend it with my loved ones whether it s eating, cooking, playing tennis, travelling or just sitting around cracking up, whenever I have a friend or two around. I wish I could spend more time with my family, but they re out in Zimbabwe so I don t get to see them as often as I d like to. Q What do you fear? A Creepy crawling creatures: they give me goose bumps!! Q Best advice you have ever been given? A Take responsibility for where you are at in life and be proactive not passive
