1 Chaikin Analytics for ipad v1.3.1 Alerts Reference Guide Alert View The Chaikin Analytics Alert View shows Signals and Alerts for stocks in the current list which have become active within the last two market days. Buy & Sell Signals highlight stocks with lower-risk short-term entry and exit points. They can be actionable trading opportunities, when combined with a careful review of a stock s Power Gauge Rating and technicals. Bullish & Bearish Alerts highlight important events about the price, rating, and earnings of stocks you are watching. While not intended as actionable trading events on their own, they call attention to specific stocks for a closer look. The left panel shows Buy Signals and Bullish Alerts. The right panel shows Sell Signals and Bearish Alerts.

2 Signals Chaikin provides 6 pairs of Buy & Sell Signals: Signal Oversold Buy/Overbought Sell Momentum Breakout/Breakdown Reversal Buy/Sell Money Flow Buy/Sell Relative Strength Buy/Sell Rel. Strength Breakout/Breakdown Description Stocks at potential short-term reversal points. Stocks which have broken out of a trading band with momentum likely to continue. Stocks reversing direction relative to the market, with momentum likely to continue. Stocks with strong money flow and short-term momentum likely to continue. Stocks outperforming (underperforming) the market, with momentum likely to continue. Strong (weak) stocks which have started to outperform (underperform) the market. Each Signal shows a Ticker Symbol, Signal Name, Effective Date, and Trigger Price (the stock s closing price at the time of calculation). Signals are stamped Today until the next closing market data is received, even on weekends and holidays). Signals for Today are shown first, grouped alphabetically within Signal type, then Signals for the previous market day. Notes on Signal Calculations: Signals are computed after each market day when new closing data is received, generally by 11:30pm EST each weeknight. They do not change intraday. Calculations are based on market data and Power Gauge Ratings at the time of calculation, and are valid until the next trading day s closing data is received. Ratings are updated before the following open and may change after Signals are calculated.

3 Alerts Chaikin Analytics provides four types of Bullish & Bearish Alerts: Power Gauge Alerts Price Trend Alerts Earnings Surprise Alerts Estimate Revision Alerts Stocks whose Power Gauge Rating has become Bullish or Bearish as of a result of the most recent update. Stocks which have crossed above or below their long-term on a closing basis as a result of the most recent update. Companies which have reported quarterly earnings different from the analyst consensus estimate. Companies whose consensus earnings estimate for the upcoming quarter has changed (by at least $.02 or 2%). Alerts are calculated once daily, except Earnings Surprise Alerts which update multiple times during the day. Stocks which have an Alert within the last two market days are ordered alphabetically, then Alerts are ordered by recency and Alert type within each stock.

Companies which have reported quarterly earnings different from the analyst consensus estimate. Companies whose consensus earnings estimate for the upcoming quarter has changed (by at least $.

4 Power Gauge Alerts Power Gauge Ratings are updated before each market day, generally by 7:30am EST. Alerts are generated for any stock which has become Bullish or Bearish as a result of the update. Price Trend Alerts A stock crossing its long-term trend is a reason to look closer if you own it or are looking to take a position, as it may indicate an overall change in personality. Market data is updated nightly after each market day, and indicators and Signals are calculated. A Price Trend Alert is generated for stocks which have crossed above or below their long-term trend on a closing basis as a result of the update. This may also trigger a Power Gauge Alert. The trend used is Chaikin Trend a 200-day double-exponential average the orange line on Chaikin Analytics charts. Date. The effective date of the Alert - the market day following the data date. Price. The closing price that triggered the Alert. Notes on Power Gauge behavior: If a Bullish stock drops below its long-term trend, the Power Gauge Rating will be clipped to Neutral+. The Bullish rating may be restored if the stock crosses back above the trend. Conversely, if a Bearish stock crosses above its long-term trend, its Rating will be clipped to Neutral- and the Bearish rating may be restored if the stock crosses back under the trend. Volume Spike Exception (Or Why are some stocks Bullish below their long-term trend? ). If a Bullish stock which has broken down below its long-term trend has a spike in trading volume, this indicates that the stock may be finding a bottom and there may be a potential change in direction. In this case, the rating will be allowed to return to Bullish. Conversely, with Bearish stocks above their long-term trend that have been clipped to Neutral-, a volume spike can return the rating to Bearish.

5 Earnings Surprises Earnings Surprises can be a primary driver of volatile market activity. Chaikin Analytics receives quarterly earnings announcements from Zacks 5 times during the trading day, and again at 1:15am after each trading day. Stocks which report Earnings that differ from their consensus Estimate generate an Earnings Surprise Alert. We have found that stocks with Very Bearish Power Gauge ratings are at higher risk for negative earnings surprises, and conversely for Very Bullish ratings. This is because Power Gauge factors, such as those in the Expert Opinions component, look at the activity of various market participants like Analysts, Short Sellers, and Company Insiders who may have a more accurate picture of a company s earnings dynamics. You can use this fact to help position you ahead of earnings announcements. Date. Date of the earnings announcement. Act. Actual reported quarterly EPS. Est. Consensus estimate quarterly EPS. Pct. Percent difference between Estimate and Actual. Estimate Revisions Changes in analyst Earnings Estimates can also be significant drivers of market activity. Chaikin receives consensus quarterly estimates from Zacks nightly after each weekday, and generates Estimate Revision Alerts when the new estimate differs from the previous estimate by more than 2 cents per share (or 2%).
