3 EDUCATION SEMINAR Gwendolyn Lohbrunner - Senior IPM Analyst - IPM Program, Environmental Standards Branch - Ministry of Environment Gwendolyn Lohbrunner completed her B.Sc. from Simon Fraser University (SFU) in 1996, majoring in plant biology. She went on to achieve a Master of Pest Management (MPM) from SFU in 2001 with a focus on weed science in forestry and industrial settings. Gwendolyn is a Registered Professional Biologist. Gwendolyn has over 20 years of experience in the field of pest management. This includes positions with BC Hydro, BC Transmission Corporation, as a self-employed consultant, and with the Ministry of Environment (MOE). She has worked in the industrial vegetation management sector, on invasive plant management programs, and with education and training programs. In her current role as the MOE Senior IPM Policy Analyst, she is responsible for development of legislation and policy with respect to the IPM Act and Regulation. Jeff Mingay - Mingay Golf Course Design Jeff Mingay is founder and president of Mingay Golf Course Design. Since the inception of his firm in 2009, Mr. Mingay has been involved with the development and implementation of a number of highly-acclaimed golf course improvement projects. Along with his recent work at the Derrick Golf and Winter Club, those projects include restorative-based work at the Victoria Golf Club and Kelowna Golf and Country Club in British Columbia, and renovation of The Oakville Golf Club and York Downs Golf and Country Club in suburban Toronto. Mr. Mingay is currently at work restoring Fircrest Golf Club and Inglewood Golf Club, two 1920s era courses originally designed by legendary golf architect A.V. Macan on the outskirts of Seattle, Washington. Mr. Mingay founded his firm based on the principles of creating a small company that takes a personal interest in the design and construction of each project. He continues to personally shape the most important golf course features, including greens and bunkers, and is committed to limiting the number of simultaneous design and construction projects to ensure a maximum amount of personal attention. Prior to establishing Mingay Golf Course Design, Mr. Mingay worked as an associate of fellow Canadian golf architect Rod Whitman for nearly a decade. During his time with Mr. Whitman, Mr. Mingay was involved with the design and construction of some of the most acclaimed golf courses built in Canada in recent years, including Blackhawk Golf Club, in Edmonton; Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club, in British Columbia; and, Cabot Links, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Each of those courses won multiple Best New awards upon opening and now rank among the top-20 golf courses in Canada. Mr. Mingay is widely recognized as an expert on classic golf architecture of the pre-world War II era, which inspired his work at the Derrick Golf and Winter Club. He has also authored or contributed to eight books on golf architecture, published many feature articles in magazines and journals around the world, and is a frequent speaker at industry events throughout North America. Lorne Rubenstein calls Mr. Mingay one of the sharpest men working in and around of the field of golf course design today. Josh Lewis - Course Superintendent - Chambers Bay Golf Course At the young age of 31 Josh, is embarking on his 15th year in the golf industry. A graduate of Oregon State University, Josh interned at Eugene Country Club in Oregon at which time he was directly involved in hosting the 2008 US Women s Amateur. From there, he was hired as the head assistant superintendent at historic Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California. Josh s repertoire also includes six years at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, involvement with the construction of Bandon Trails as well as 2 USGA Championships. Starting at Chambers Bay in the fall of 2011, he is now Head Greens Superintendent and very busy preparing for the 2015 US Open which will be the largest sporting event ever to be held in the Pacific Northwest.
