3 Introduction Are you looking for a role utilising your proven business development skills and small business management experience? The New Zealand Computer Society Inc (NZCS) is the professional body of the ICT sector and works with industry, government and academia to improve the professional delivery of ICT. NZCS is part of an international network of bodies and works closely with international kindred partners around the world. Software Escrow (NZ) Ltd (SENZ) is a wholly- owned subsidiary of NZCS providing independent software escrowing services to New Zealand and overseas companies. When a software vendor provides software to a company they often maintain the source code, licensing the company to use the product only. A Software Escrow Agent such as SENZ securely stores and retains a copy of this source code so if something happens to the vendor (such as it going out of business) the company can access the source code for maintenance and support purposes. SENZ contracts NZCS to run the operations of SENZ and this new position has been created within NZCS for a dedicated General Manager to manage all aspects of the Software Escrow operations on a half- time basis. This new position is primarily a business development role and includes: All aspects of Business Development, including creation of potential stakeholder and client lists and channels to market and actively pursuing these. Actively contacting and meeting with potential Escrow clients and channel partners (such as law firms and other business advisors). Managing all aspects of the administration and Escrow operations of the company, including securely lodging Escrow material. Basic small business accounting using the Xero package. Basic Debtor and Creditor management. Regular reporting to the SENZ Board of Directors. Promoting and advocating for Software Escrow as a concept in conjunction with NZCS. All other tasks related to operation of the Escrow business. The role is initially 15 hours per week (envisioned to be 3 hours per day, 5 days a week) with additional hours as required making it the perfect role for someone returning to the workforce or with young children. It is envisioned that this will grow over time to a fulltime position however this cannot be guaranteed. While initially 15 hours per week will be paid as part of the package, the remuneration also includes a generous revenue share component based on the level of new business. Hence the successful applicant may consider contributing additional time from time to time to generate additional revenue. ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE TREATED IN THE STRICTEST CONFIDENCE.
4 Overview of Role This is a diverse and challenging role based in Wellington with two main components: Significant Business Development and Marketing A large part of the role is concerned with developing the Escrow market in New Zealand plus working to increase the client base of the company including: Stakeholder and other client identification by segment and type Devising business development and marketing strategies at both high- level and in detail Actively promoting the Escrow services to potential clients directly and indirectly Devising and identifying marketing opportunities and actively seeking these All other business development functions Managing all operations of the Escrow business This involves managing all aspects of SENZ on a day- to- day basis with relative autonomy, including: Handling client enquiries Managing the Escrow process Lodging software in the Central Vault Completing basic financial and operational reporting Other related activities Person Specifications The following are essential for this position: A demonstrably trustworthy individual with a high standard of personal ethics; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to successfully interact with business people from all sizes and shapes of organisations including lawyers, IT professionals, business owners, etc. Proven business development experience, preferably in a small business setting; Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow secure processes without deviation; Excellent initiative and ability to work somewhat autonomously; The ability to see projects and activities through to successful conclusion; A professional attitude and passion for making a significant difference to the ICT sector; Ability to achieve significant results in a low- resource environment; A background in, or familiarity with, ICT would be advantageous but not essential.
5 Relationships Directly Responsible to: Overall Responsibility to: Supervision of: Functional Relationships with: The Executive Director of SENZ (NZCS Chief Executive) The Board of Directors of SENZ None The Board of Directors of SENZ, other members of NZCS staff, professional members of the Society, potential members, clients of SENZ and others. Term and Remuneration Permanent Position This is a permanent position with an immediate start. Half- time basis Initial hours will be 15 hours per week, envisioned to be 3 hours per day Monday to Friday. The actual hours are flexible making the role ideal for someone with young children. Remuneration The remuneration offered will depend on the experience and background of the successful applicant however it is envisioned to be in the $30-35 range per hour for set hours. An additional revenue share is offered on the following basis (paid monthly): 5% of all new Software Escrow sales as General Manager - Escrow An additional 5% of all new personal Software Escrow sales (ie 5% of all new sales and a total of 10% of all new sales resulting from direct business development activity conducted by the General Manager).
