6 "Credit Risk Measurement in Performance Pricing-Based Debt Contracts"--This paper examines the choice of the default risk proxy in performance pricing-based debt contracts. When using the traditional book-to-market (B/M) ratio, investors generally simply add the balance sheet assets and subtract the liabilities to arrive at the book value of the firm. This paper creates an adjusted B/M ratio, based on the ability of each balance sheet line item to predict future cash flows. The adjusted B/M ratio is then used to predict future firm performance (earnings and cash flows) and future stock returns. This paper examines various accounting-based trading strategies' performance during times of investor inattention (e.g., summer months) Do Managers Define non-gaap Earnings to Exceed Analyst Forecasts? This paper suggests that managers may be employing a previously undocumented method of beating benchmarks: defining earnings in an opportunistic fashion to exceed earnings forecasts.
