Presentation of the course Today, organizations that seek to excel, do intensive use of information at all levels: operational, tactic and strategic. This new paradigm has created a new context in business and in society, usually known as New Economy or Knowledge Society. The objective of this course is to provide students with the necessary competences to become active actors in the Knowledge Society, and so gain a general understanding for main IT processes, solutions and organization. The course is designed to be applicable, either if the student develops its career in a large enterprise, a SME, or builds its own start up. The course covers Information Systems from an end user perspective, who will not necessarily implement the solution, but rather will set expectations, requirements and will influence the purchase decision. The above competences interrelate with the basic competences set out in Royal Decree 1393/2007, namely: a. competence to comprehend knowledge, on the basis of general secondary education b. competence to apply knowledge to day-to-day work in international management or marketing, in particular, ability to develop and defend arguments and to solve problems c. competence to gather and interpret relevant data, enabling the development of critical judgements on the economic and social reality d. competence to communicate and transmit information (ideas, problems, solutions) to a specialised and non-specialised public e. competence to develop learning activities in a relatively autonomous manner. In order to establish a correspondence between the basic competences and those developed in the degree, these are grouped according to two criteria. Thus, the competences developed in the subject are structured into those that are seen as a development or specification of basic competences and those that define the professional profile of the graduate, with respect to general and specific competences. General competences G.I.4, G.S.5 Competences that define the professional profile which are not included under basic competences In general, these competences combine the following key elements for professionalising students in the area of international business and marketing: - provide students with the capacity to adapt to dynamic teams and environments - provide students with the capacity to create their own integral vision of the operation of a business or international marketing project - provide students with the capacity to take complex decisions and carry out negotiation processes I. Capacity to argue how Information Systems add value to all organization levels and functions. Capacity to understand how persons, procedures, hardware, software and information, are essential members of any information system. Ability to actively participate in IT solution life cycle management. Ability to assess the selection and implementation of an ERP, CRM or BI system and in general, ability to assess the selection and implementation of any IT solution to help individuals, groups and organizations to reach his goals. 4. In this seminar students will familiarize themselves with this tools and will expose their conclusions to the class. Part 3 - Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) 1. ERP main functionalities and benefits 2. Main providers 3. Product assessment and product purchase: methodology and tips & trips 4. ERP implementation: methodology and tips & trips 2 - There are many ERP solutions that provide a free trial, so students will be asked to do some market research and select an ERP solution to do some transactions and expose to the class their conclusions about the usability, functionality and price of the ERP solution used. Part 4 - Marketing and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) 1. CRM main functionalities & benefits 2. Main providers 3. Product assessment and product purchase: methodology and tips & trips 4. CRM implementation: methodology and tips & trips 3 - There are many CRM solutions that provide a free trial, so students will be asked to do some market research and select a CRM solution to do some tests and expose to the class their conclusions about the usability, functionality and price of the CRM solution used. Part 5 - Corporate Website, Corporate Social Network, e-commerce and presence in social networks 1. Corporate Website main functionalities and Best Practices design 2. Some examples of good and bad corporate websites 3. Corporate Social Networks main functionalities & benefits 4. Information Systems for e-commerce and for presence in social networks 4 - Students will select some corporate web pages and will argue why they consider are good, regular or bad websites, from a perspective of usability, alignment to the business and conversion and will present their conclusions to the class. Part 6 - Business Intelligence (BI) 1. BI main functionalities & benefits 2. Main providers 3. Product assessment and product purchase: methodology and tips & trips 4. BI implementation: methodology and tips & trips 5 - There are many BI solutions that provide a free trial, so students will be asked to do some market research and select a BI solution to do some tests and expose to the class their conclusions about the usability, functionality and price of the BI solution used. 5 Part 7 - Other IT applications for business 1. Document management 2. Computer aided design (CAD) 3. Supply chain management 4. Product identification and traceability 5. Applications for mobile devices 6. Business Process Management (BPM) 7. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 8. Mobility 6 - Students will select one or two mobile apps for enterprises and will assess them in terms of added value to the final user and the enterprise and will present their conclusions to the class. Part 8 - IT management 1. General principles for IT management 2. IT organization models: from internal to outsourcing, going thru consulting, near shore and off shore. 3. IT planning 4. Information security management 7 - Conference from an ERP software manufacturer and from a CRM or BI software manufacturer. Students will be asked to ask a questionnaire after the presentations. Part 9 - How IT projects work and your role on it 1. Why so many IT projects fail (and your part of fault) 2. IT projects phases (from requirements gathering to deployment) 3. Main development methodologies: pros and cons 8 - This seminar is the basis for the final one, where students will prepare a system map for their own company (real or simulated). The goal is that students get familiar with the Canvas model to represent the different areas of their company, mainly in terms of IS. Part 10 - How to build a low cost IS for SME and start ups 1. Software as a service (SaaS): a new paradigm for software 2. SaaS examples for ERP, CRM, Web and BI 3. BYOB concept: Bring Your Own Beverage Build Your Own Blocks, by using open source and interoperable modules. 9 - If you are entrepreneur and have your own project in mind, define a low cost IT system map for it, using the solutions seen in previous seminars, and aligned with the business model defined in seminar 9. If no one in the group has a project in mind this is a good time to think one! Information systems

Assessment Regular Term Evaluation Course evaluation will be based on various continuous assessment activities and synthesis assessment activities to assess the degree of achievement of various skills worked on during the course. The elements of evaluation are: 1. Continuous assessment activity - Test moodle pre readings master sessions (4%). 2. Continuous assessment activity - Nine activities and participation in seminars (36%) (each of the activities has the same weight). The delivery dates of the reports of the activities are listed in the section on programming activities. It requires a minimum score of 4 out of 10 in total of this item. 3. Synthesis assessment activity - A final exam consisting of multiple choice part + exercises (60%). It requires a minimum score of 4 out of 10 on this test. In case of non-attendance to the final exam, the student will receive an N.A. grade. Recovery criteria Continuous assessment items are not retrievable. In the case the course is not approved, but a minimum grade of 4 is achieved in the continuous assessment, the student will be eligible to recover the course by doing a recovery exam. 7 The recovery exam will be scheduled at a date fixed by ESCI Failure to attend the recovery exam, the student will maintain the qualification obtained. If assists the recovery exam, the student will obtain the new qualification regarding the following criteria: Final Exam: 60% Elements of continuous assessment 40% Failure to achieve the minimum score of 4 points on the final exam, the course grade will be the one corresponding to the lowest note. 6. Methodology The activities of teaching / learning will be: In the classroom with the entire group (master classes). In each class we will introduce the topic. They will be 10 lessons using lecture methodology. In the classroom with subgroups - s. Each class will be one or more activities that include: conferences, discussion of a case, conclusions on using an application or defining the system map for your own project. s will be 9 and 9 activities undertaken following a methodology very interactive, participatory and practical. These activities require prior and, in some cases after the seminar (see schedule of activities in the following section). Information systems

8 Run out of the classroom, individually. For each topic, the student must take readings indicated as well as the of individual activities (see schedule of activities in the following section). Run out of the classroom, in group (3 or 4 students). The case studies to be discussed in the class should be prepared by groups of 3 or 4 students. The discussion and the report to present the day of the seminar will also be prepared as a group. Autonomous outside the classroom, individually or in teams. Students can also learn independently consulting other sources, such as additional bibliography.
