5 History History of the School of General Studies 1904 Founding of the Extension Teaching Program, which offers courses to working, non-degree students The extension program is reorganized as an undergraduate college, the School of General Studies (GS) GS begins to grant the B.A. degree Creation of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which ensures that all Columbia undergraduates will take the same classes, with the same professors.
