1 Volume I, Issue 2 April 1, 2012 Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training Richland College Corporate Services is pleased to announce its partnership with The Quality Group to deliver world-class blended e-learning solutions for Workforce Development. Blended e-learning is the combination of multiple approaches to learning, particularly in the use of technology to create and deliver portions of the learning. In a blended learning environment, e-learning complements classroom training, rather than replaces it. The benefits one can attain using blended learning technology includes: Produce a total learning experience Online training available 24/7 Consistent training delivery Higher retention and better mentoring A Delivery Model that Works Virtual Classes On-Line Self Paced Training Instructor Led Classroom Training On the Job Application Corporate Services initial offering will be Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training. A Lean Six Sigma typically is a process manager/leader who is responsible for supporting a company s Lean Six Sigma initiative by managing projects in his or her part of the business. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course artfully blends the tools of Lean with the rigorous DMAIC methodology and statistical toolset. We anticipate that the first offering of this course will be in late spring or early summer. The class will consist of 22 hours of e-learning, 9 hours of virtual classroom, 24 hours of instructor led capstone simulation and 2 hours of certification exam. The cost for this training will be $1,995 per person. For more information see page 2, then call Konley Kelley at or Tandy Dollar at to sign up for this new Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training.

3 Volume I, Issue 2 Page 3 Workplace Communications/English as a Second Language Richland has one of the largest Workforce Communications programs specifically English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs of any college in North Texas. This program can be offered to businesses and organizations in the North Dallas area through Richland College Corporate Services. There are many advantages to scheduling private, group ESL classes at your workplace. For example, the college can work with you to develop a class schedule that best fits your employees needs. Training can be customized and content can be developed to address specific learning outcomes. Richland College trainers can work closely with HR and managers to incorporate terminology and phrases common to your workplace. The college also offers a language assessment prior to the training. This activity is customized to your workplace and will help identify employee listening, speaking and comprehension abilities. Up to 20 students may attend a class. Students are provided textbooks. Richland instructors also use innovative methods to build on skills learned in class. For past clients, instructors and students have designed workplace-focused role play activities to demonstrate practical usage of the language. Last year, Richland College instructor, Lisa Foster, worked with Hatco students on a storyboard activity. Using photographs and captions in English, each student created a storyboard of their job responsibilities and workflow. This was presented by the students in English to classmates and Hatco leadership. Communication in the workplace is vital to company productivity, efficiency and safety. With so much diversity in the workplace, employers can rely on Richland College as a resource for reducing language and cultural barriers. Learning a new language is challenging, but it can be life changing at work and at home. Client Testimonials Employees from Christian Care Center participate in an Workplace Communications class. The Electronic Medical Records class at Richland Collage was fun and informative. We were instructed in the policies and organizations that govern the electronic medical record systems for security and conformity which will help me in choosing an EMR system for my office. The curriculum has given me a solid foundation in the operation and use of a electronic medical records system. I feel confident that I will be able to quickly assimilate the knowledge I have received from this class to the new EMR in our office. Tina Peters Office of Massuma Kazemi, M.D.
4 Volume 1, Issue 2 Instructor Spotlight Page 4 Richland College Corporate Services customers benefit by having access to a wide variety of courses and training programs many of which are developed under the guidance of college/industry advisors and delivered by instructors from the college s adjunct faculty as well as industry consultants.
