A professional VA staff member who participates in a site visit does so on behalf of VA and therefore must be on OFFICIAL TRAVEL DUTY status. When procedures described in the Guidance are followed, the accrediting organization can either pay the VA employee s travel costs directly or those costs can be paid by VA which would then be reimbursed by the accrediting organization. The VA employee may not personally accept reimbursement from the accrediting agency. VA Form 0893 (Gift of Non Federal Travel Support) is not required when there is an agreement between the accrediting organization and VA.
