1 Course Requirements-Plan B Community Health Optional for classes 2016, 2017, 2018 Updated 1/4/16 Summary of Core Courses. Each CHP major is required to fulfill the following six requirements: Core Requirements Credits Semester Distribution/Foundation 1. CH 1 Introduction to Community Health 1 fall Social 2. CH 2 Health Care in America 1 spring Social 3. CEE 54/CH54 or Fundamentals of Epidemiology CEE 154 Principles of Epidemiology 1 fall/spring 4. CH 180 Internship ** 1 all 5. An introductory statistics class 1 all Mathematics 6. A course from the Inquiry and Evidence group 1 all **Students must have completed CH 1 and CH2 prior to the internship. Elective Courses Additionally, CHP majors are required to take four electives. At least one of these must be approved for of Health, one for Frameworks for Understanding Health, and one for Health/Health Care Policy. At least one of these four courses must be approved as a research course and at least one must be approved as a comparative or cross-cultural course. Courses approved for the research and/or cross-cultural requirements are listed following the description of the clusters. A single course may satisfy multiple purposes. Thus, a seminar might count for Research, Cross-cultural and Frameworks. But students must still take four electives. Statistics Courses at Tufts University Students make take any of the following: CEE 194 (Principles of Biostats), CH 31(offered in the Fall), Psychology 31, Sociology 101, Child Development 140, Economics 13, Biology 132, Mathematics 21, PS 103, ES 56 Inquiry and Evidence Options Students must take at least one course that trains them in how to systematically ask and answer research questions. Such courses are offered across an array of disciplines. Approved courses are: Biology 49, 50, 51, 52, 106 and 194; CD 143 (Inquiry and Analysis in Child Study and Human Devel.); CD 144; CH 30, CH 99 (only CH Program Planning course), 182, and 197/198 (honors thesis); Psychology 32 and 38; Sociology 102; Introduction to GIS (GIS 101/ENV 107/INTR 81 or UEP 232 or CEE 194C (Environ. Informatics) or NUTR 231 or EOS 104 or CEE 187); CEE 194 (Field Methods only), UEP ; UEP Pass/Fail No course submitted for credit in the major can be taken on a pass/fail basis. Academic Standing All courses submitted for credit in the major must be passed with a C- or better, with the exception of the internship. The internship (CH 180) must be passed with a B- or better.
