Do you have any of these varicose vein symptoms? Heaviness Achiness Swelling Throbbing Itching HASTI Symptoms Ask your doctor if Varithena is right for you Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) is a prescription medicine used to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) and other related veins in the leg s GSV system. Varithena improves symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, and the appearance of varicose veins. You should not be treated with Varithena if you are allergic to polidocanol or have clots in your blood vessels. See next page for additional Important Safety Information.
About varicose veins Varicose veins are enlarged, bulging veins usually found in the legs. Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) treats varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) system in the leg. Varithena does not treat all forms of varicose veins. Please talk to your doctor to see if Varithena is right for you. Common symptoms Varicose veins can cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as achiness, swelling, throbbing, heaviness, and itching. Common risk factors Family history, aging, being overweight or obese, and working at jobs requiring prolonged standing can increase the risk for varicose veins. Why they occur Varicose veins occur when the tiny valves inside the veins become weaker, causing blood to back up and make the veins swell. Tiny valves help the leg veins work against gravity to push blood back to the heart. But if valves weaken, blood can leak backwards and pool, resulting in varicose veins.
Improves 5 key varicose vein symptoms and improves vein appearance Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) is a prescription medicine used to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) and other related veins in the leg s GSV system. Varithena improves symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, and the appearance of varicose veins. Improves 5 symptoms patients consider most important (HASTI Symptoms) Heaviness Achiness Swelling Throbbing Itching Improves vein appearance Minimally invasive; no incisions, sedation, or general anesthesia required Patients may resume some activities the same day as treatment The only FDA-approved foam treatment for varicose veins in the GSV system Severe allergic reactions have been reported in people treated with liquid forms of polidocanol and some patients have died from these reactions. Varithena is a foam made from polidocanol. A healthcare professional will observe you for signs of allergic reactions for at least 10 minutes after you are treated with Varithena. See next page for additional Important Safety Information.
Questions about treatment with Varithena About Varithena How does Varithena work? The doctor administers a small amount of Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) through a catheter or by direct injection into the malfunctioning vein The foam fills and treats the desired section of the vein The diseased vein collapses and the foam is deactivated How is blood flow affected? When the malfunctioning vein collapses, blood flow shifts to healthier veins nearby. About treatment What is treatment like? Treatment with Varithena is minimally invasive and nonsurgical (no incisions required). The doctor usually numbs the injection site, but no additional anesthesia is required.
How long does treatment take? It usually takes the doctor less than an hour to administer Varithena. How soon can I get back to my normal activities? Patients may resume some activities the same day as treatment. Heavy exercise should be avoided for one week. Post-treatment bandages need to be kept dry and in place for 48 hours, and compression stockings must be worn on the treated leg for 2 weeks. For a month, patients should walk at least 10 minutes a day and avoid long periods of inactivity. How many treatments might I need? Some patients only need a single treatment. Additional treatment may be needed, depending on the number and size of veins to be treated. Will my insurance cover treatment? Insurance carriers may cover varicose vein treatment. Coverage may depend on the severity of the varicose veins and symptoms. Your doctor s office may be able to help you understand your coverage. Talk to your doctor to learn more. Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, including if you have arterial disease (a disease of the blood vessels) have reduced mobility have a history of blood clots in the veins or lungs have had major surgery in the past 3 months have recently had a long hospital stay are pregnant or have recently been pregnant See next page for additional Important Safety Information.
Clinical trial results with Varithena In 2 placebo-controlled studies, the majority of patients treated with Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) experienced these results: Improved symptoms Including heaviness, achiness, swelling, throbbing, and itching (HASTI Symptoms) Improved vein appearance In assessments by both patients and doctors Real results with Varithena Results after one treatment with Varithena Additional treatment may be needed, depending on the number and size of veins to be treated. Your results may vary. PATIENT 1 BEFORE AFTER Photographs taken before treatment and 8 weeks after treatment

Varithena improves symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, and the appearance of varicose veins. The most common side effects seen with Varithena are leg pain or discomfort, injection site bruising or pain, and potentially serious blood clots in the leg veins. These are not all of the possible side effects of Varithena. Tell your healthcare provider about any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. You can also report side effects to the FDA at FDA See back cover for additional Important Safety Information. PATIENT 2 BEFORE AFTER
