2 The Air-con system Accumulator / Receiver Drier Evaporator Expansion Valve Condenser Compressor The main purpose of an Air-conditioning system is to maintain the Air and comfort in the passenger compartment at a comfortable environment level by cooling or heating the air blown into the passenger compartment. In addition it will reduce humidity, dust and smells in the passenger compartment. To perform these operations, the car s air-conditioning system generally consists of a heater, evaporator and a ventilation system including a blower, air ducts and a air purifier. The main components of the refrigeration cycle : 1, Compressor, driven by the car engine 2, Condenser 3, Receiver Drier / Accumulator 4, Expansion Valve 5, Evaporator The system components are connected to each other with different tubes and hoses.

14 The USX-1 Ultrasonic Leak Detector A valuable addition to every engineer s diagnostic equipment. The USX-1 has a wide range of diagnostic uses. It helps you to detect : - Mechanical Wear - Bearings, shafts, gears, cam and tappet assemblies. - Leaks in pressurised systems - Vacuum Leaks - Electrical discharge due to insulation breakdown Most mechanical faults and failures start out as very small defects or leaks. Such faults emit a high pitched noise as ultrasonic waves, which are beyond the range of the human ear. As the faults get more serious the noise gets more intense, the sound wavelength increases and enters the audible range. At that stage, the damage is already done. Better to detect the noise before you can hear it. The new USX-1 hears the ultrasonic noise and reconverts it to an audible sound via earphones. 15 The CLT1 Compressor Diagnostic Tool CLT1 will provide you with the answer to questions like : - Is the malfunction dependent on the electronics or the AC-Loop? - Since costs are not chargeable to the customer... - What does it cost me if I search in the wrong direction? - What does it cost to open the loop unnecessarily? 27 How to use the Lokring Connections To ensure that the connection seals, You must lightly sand the pipe ends with fine sand paper to remove dirt and debris. You must then apply Lokprep to both ends of the pipe, making sure that the Lokprep does not enter the pipe. Insert the pipe ends into the Lokring connector ensuring the pipe ends are inserted to the inner limit and remain fixed in this position. Finally close the Lokring connection up ensuring that both sides close fully and meet the centre stop. That s it, one secure joint has been created. 27
