2 Unleash the power of your BlackBerry! The following series of slides contain the latest tips and tricks to get the most from your BlackBerry wireless handheld. Navigate from the home screen, manage your inbox, move between applications and more

3 The Home Screen Overview Acts as the main menu entry point to all BlackBerry Applications Click trackwheel or press Enter to open an application Certain partners offer customized Home screen colors and interfaces Includes banner bar with status indicators Time/Date, Battery Life, Signal Strength (RSSI), Unread message count, voic indicator, roaming indicator, etc

4 The Home Screen Moving, Hiding, and Showing Icons Moving Icons ALT + trackwheel click will bring up a menu to let you pickup and move an icon Hiding and Showing Icons ALT + trackwheel click will bring up a menu to Hide or Show All icons

5 The Home Screen Application Switching Holding ALT and pressing ESCAPE will bring up the Application Switcher from any location in the User Interface Users can then scroll through all active applications and switch to one by releasing the ALT key Home screen, Messages, Address Book and Browser are always active Example: Switch to Home screen while creating an appointment in Calendar to check current Date/Time

6 Phone Dialing a Phone Number Dialing from the Home screen Simply begin typing a phone number from the Home screen or in the Phone Application Note: Phone Options Dial from Home screen must be set to Yes to Dial from the Home screen. If this option is set to No then traditional BlackBerry Home screen hot keys function.

7 Phone Dialing Letters When dialing users can use the ALT + letter keys to dial letters BlackBerry will automatically send the appropriate DTMF tones (2 = ABC, 3 = DEF, 4 = GHI, 5 = JKL, 6 = MNO, 7 = PQRS, etc ) = This same mechanism also applies when connected to a phone call For example - some corporate PBX s ask you to enter a Last Name =

8 Phone Speed Dialing User can assign all 26 letters A Z (Full QWERTY) to quickly dial numbers from the Home screen or Phone application Note: 1 key is defaulted to speed dial Voic Speed Dial can be setup by either holding a key to assign or by selecting View Speed Dial List from the Phone application Once configured the user can simply hold the appropriate key for 1 second to call the assigned number or contact

9 Phone Bluetooth for Hands-free Phone Operation Focused support on hands-free operation with Bluetooth headsets and car kits Users can pair with Bluetooth devices from Options-Bluetooth A quick Bluetooth On/Off icon then appears once at least 1 Bluetooth device is paired

10 Phone Smart Dialing Basic Settings Smart Dialing is designed to ensure that numbers dialed from the Address Book or Hyperlinks are connected successfully whether they are local numbers, national numbers or international numbers Smart Dialing Options are available from the Phone Options screen The Basic Settings are as follows: Country Code The user s home country code Area Code The user s local area code make sure this is completed National Number Length (i.e. 10 for Canada/US) The length of a national number within the user s home country code which consists of the area code + the phone number

11 Phone Smart Dialing Corporate Settings The Corporate Settings are as follows: Corporate Phone Number The corporate PBX phone number Wait For Delay desired before dialing extension after connecting to PBX Extension Length Number of extension digits Allows the user to specify the default corporate phone number. When the user dials a number prefixed with x, the corporate phone number is dialed followed by the extension digits upon connection Note: If the corporate extension length is not configured then the Phone application will prompt the users to resolve any ambiguity

12 Messaging Hot Keys Manage your and inbox conveniently using the Hot Keys below. 13 Messaging Searching the Message List Users can quickly Search Subject or Search Sender/Recipient to see all messages in a thread or all messages from/to a specific person There are also 6 pre-canned searches as follows: ALT + I = shows all Incoming Messages ( /pin/sms/etc ) ALT + O = shows all Outgoing Messages ( /pin/sms/etc ) ALT + P = shows all Phone Call Logs (incoming/outgoing/missed) ALT + S = shows all SMS Messages ALT + V = shows all Voic Messages There is also a Global Search icon (BlackBerry Device Software v3.8 or higher) on the Home screen that allows the user to search by Name or Free-form Text across all and PIM (Calendar, Address Book, MemoPad and Tasks)

14 Messaging Searching the Message List (Advanced) Users can also perform more Advanced Searches by selecting Search from the menu Example Advanced Search True Inbox Select Search from Message List Make Search Criteria Folder = Inbox, Type = and Show = Received Only Select Save from Search screen Add in Title True Inbox and Shortcut Key b ALT + B in the Message List will now show all received s in the users Inbox

15 Messaging Managing your Mailbox Delete Prior allows users to manage their device Inbox and memory without deleting items from their Outlook, Notes or GroupWise environment Delete Prior is available from the Message List menu when a Date Separator bar is highlighted When selecting Delete Prior after performing a Message List Search ONLY the Search Results are deleted (see example for Phone Logs below) BlackBerry offers bi-directional reconciliation of Deleted, Filed and Read/Unread Message Status Users can also remotely empty their Deleted Items Folder to help manage mailbox quotas from Messages-Options- Reconciliation-Purge Deleted Items

16 Application Integration Voice and Data Integration Dial a phone number from the Address Book, Phone application, message, etc Click on hyperlinked phone number in , SMS, web page, attachment, etc to either call or SMS immediately! Click on a hyperlinked (SMTP) address in , SMS, web page, attachment, etc to immediately !

17 Application Integration Voice and Data Integration cont d Access other applications while on a phone call (i.e. , address, calendar, etc ) by simply selecting Home Screen from the menu Check your Calendar and create/edit appointments while on the phone Send and receive SMS while on the phone Compose an that will be sent as soon as you are off the phone Etc Simply press the Phone/SEND button, or select the Phone application to return to the Active Call screen

18 Application Integration Hyperlink Tips and Tricks When composing an or an SMS to another BlackBerry user there are a few Autotext shortcuts that can help leverage the application integration and hyperlinking in BlackBerry mynumber = will populate your phone number mypin = will populate your PIN # sig = will populate your Owner Information set in Options-Owner

19 Application Integration Device Model and Software Version The next time you need your user to tell you the device model and version of software they are running just have them it to you in one easy step! myver = will populate the device model and software version into an , PIN or SMS message

20 On-Device Help System Access Help System From Anywhere Users can view application-specific help right on the device (BlackBerry Device Software v3.8 or higher) Helps provide context-sensitive help, as well as lowering support costs for BlackBerry! Extensible to carrier partners and enterprises in future versions User can either select Help from the Home screen menu or Help from the menu in BlackBerry Applications (i.e. Messages, Phone, Calendar, etc ) to get context-sensitive help information
