2 Need for Administrators Within the next decade, 40-50% of the current school administrators in the U.S. will be retiring (ACSA 2008) There is a current need for highly skilled school administrators throughout the Central Valley.

3 MISSION We believe our purpose is to prepare highly trained administrators who can meet the current and future challenges facing our schools.

4 VISION We believe that improved student performance and improved teaching depends upon improved instructional leadership that supports learning. We believe that leaders can learn the skills and practical application necessary for working in high priority schools in order to improve all student performance. We believe that leaders must be supported in meeting the challenges of creating the organizational conditions that ensure student success.

5 How Will We Accomplish This? Coursework: Delivering a standardsbased program for aspiring administrators that is grounded in the knowledge and skills in the leadership standards (CPSELS). On-Line: Establishing a small learning community that is electronically interactive and collaborative.

6 How Will We Accomplish This? Fieldwork: Providing fieldwork experiences focused on teaching and learning Coaching: Assigning a trained coach in Cognitive Coaching SM to support the ongoing learning and its application.

9 Final Assessment Leadership Project Participants take an active role in a project that: *Demonstrates their leadership abilities *Creates positive change *Improves teaching and learning

11 Importance of Coaching Leaders are facing many challenges Coaching builds leadership capacity Role of principal has been redefined and requires a new set of skills Traditional administrative programs can t do it alone Research supports the need for leadership coaching -ACSA, 2008

12 Advantages of the Bridges to Leadership Tier One Program Model a professional leaning community by keeping each cohort small and infusing the skills and strategies of creating a Professional Learning Community throughout all the coursework. Provide a trained coach as each candidate advances through the program. Flexibility with location, dates, times. Model a standards-based system in which each student is supported in meeting standard as opposed to receiving a grade and moving on.

13 Standards-Based Grading Students are assessed based on the performance of meeting standard on the established criteria. All assignments receive instructor feedback. Assignments not yet to standard are revised and resubmitted. Focus is on a high level of learning.

14 Program Specifics Length: 15 month program Enrollment: Students are expected to enroll in three consecutive semesters. Cost: $6,250. Cost with laptop purchase: $7150.

15 College Credit / Master s Degree College credit is not offered through our program The Madera County Office of Education is in collaboration with Fresno Pacific University Participants completing our program are able to complete a Master s Degree at FPU by simply taking four addition courses The coursework from Bridges will then transfer into FPU units (24) for a $50/unit transfer fee.
