8 SUMMARY 87.1% of Pitzer respondents agree or strongly agree that they feel very safe on their campus vs. 80% for Claremont undergraduates 12.9% of respondents indicated they were sexually assaulted (41 of 319 respondents) Type of sexual assault: non-consensual touching (87.8%), vaginal sex (36.6%), anal sex (4.9%), oral sex (19.5%) Where: 55% of SA incidents on campus, in a residential building When: 59% of SA incidents occurred during the first year 70.7% of respondents reported assailants consumed alcohol, 63.4% of respondents reported they consumed alcohol 8

23 Types of Sexual Contact During the Sexual Assault In the HEDS survey, sexual assault was defined as any of the following unwanted, non-consensual types of sexual contact occurring while on campus or while off-campus at an event or program sponsored by the student s institution: a. Touching of a sexual nature b. Oral sex c. Vaginal sex d. Anal sex e. Anal or vaginal penetration with any body part or object NOTE: Sexual assault measurements are sensitive to survey format, wording, phrasing and definitions. It can be difficult to report a single measure, or compare measurements nationally across diverse survey initiatives. Measurements for attempted and actual assaults are presented in the following charts in accordance with HEDS survey methodology. 23
