1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Linda Reiner July 14, Caring for Colorado Foundation Awards $2.7 Million in Grants DENVER Keeping with this year s goals of building and supporting the state s mental health, oral health and health care safety net systems, the Caring for Colorado Foundation Board of Director s recently awarded $2.7 million in grants to 51 organizations throughout Colorado. Beneficiaries include: Garfield County Public Health to provide preventive oral health care services to underserved elementary and middle school students in Garfield, Eagle and Pitkin counties; Mineral County Board of County Commissioners to establish a new dental clinic in Creede; Community Partnership for Child Development in Colorado Springs to support behavioral health and social and emotional programming for disadvantaged children in early childhood education programs; Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center to provide mental health services for school children in Pueblo City Schools; and funding to Mountain Family Health Center in Rifle to continue to expand their capacity to provide comprehensive health services to un- and under-insured people on the Western Slope. The foundation s most recent round of funding illustrates our continuing efforts to close the health care gaps in Colorado and improve the overall health of Coloradans, said Chris Wiant, president and CEO of Caring for Colorado. Created from the sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado to Anthem Inc. in 1999, Caring for Colorado is dedicated to improving the health and health care of the people of Colorado by partnering with communities to strengthen programs that promote and improve oral health, mental health, healthy children and families, the health care workforce and overall community health. Grants approved by the board in June, are listed below. Learn more about the foundation and its grantmaking at Statewide Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence - Statewide Home Health Care Workforce -- Strengthen Colorado's home health care workforce through simulation-based training, preceptor development and nursing curriculum development. -- $39,000 1

2 Colorado Center on Law and Policy - Statewide Enrollment in Medicaid for Criminal Justice Populations -- Support and facilitate Medicaid enrollment of people involved in the criminal justice system to enable access to health care. -- $30,300 Colorado Children's Healthcare Access Program - Statewide Support the Integration of Behavioral Health Care for Children in Pediatric and Family Medicine Practices across Colorado -- Improve the behavioral health of children through prevention and early intervention in the primary care setting and by supporting practices in integrating care, conducting enhanced screening, supporting families and navigating to services. -- $39,200 Colorado Legacy Foundation - Statewide Behavioral Health Services for High Needs Schools -- Increase social, emotional and behavioral health resources at Colorado schools by helping school districts accurately identify and assess elementary students' behavioral health needs and strengthen schoolbased interventions and services. -- $29,800 Metro Crisis Services, Inc. - Statewide Statewide Expansion of Behavioral Health Hotline and Warmline Services -- Expand behavioral health hotline and warmline services to a state-wide platform and support the outreach efforts of regional coordinators. -- $39,600 Small Business Majority Foundation Inc. - Statewide Training Assistance Sites to Support Small Businesses -- Provide training to all Colorado assistance sites interested in learning how to provide Affordable Care Act outreach, education and enrollment assistance to small business owners. -- $50,000 University of Colorado Foundation - Statewide Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science to Medical Doctor Program -- Support a combined degree program offering Colorado students from a broad range of academic, economic, geographic and cultural backgrounds a continuous path to obtain undergraduate and medical degrees. -- $50,000 Denver Metropolitan Region American Diabetes Association-Colorado Area - Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, and Jefferson Por Tu Familia -- Support an evidence-based diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention program for 200 underserved Latinos, as well as outreach and navigation services to additional underserved populations. -- $35,000 2

3 Boulder Valley Women's Health Center, Inc. - Boulder, Broomfield, and Weld Reproductive Health Care -- Support comprehensive clinical services and community education efforts to reduce unintended pregnancy and improve reproductive health. -- $25,000 Clinica Colorado - Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, and Jefferson Prenatal Care Program -- Support culturally appropriate prenatal care for low-income and uninsured women. -- $15,000 Clinica Tepeyac, Inc. - Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Douglas, and Jefferson Expand Care for the Underserved -- Support a clinic expansion to increase access to care for underserved populations. -- $49,000 Colorado Alliance for Health Equity and Practice (CAHEP) - Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Douglas, El Paso, Larimer, and Morgan Access to Health Care Services for Racial and Ethnic Minorities -- Provide culturally appropriate and equitable access to health care services by supporting community screenings and providing patient navigation for immigrant populations. -- $50,000 Colorado Coalition for the Homeless - Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Douglas, and Jefferson Stout Street Eye Clinic Patient Navigator -- Provide access to high quality eye care to homeless and at-risk families and individuals at the Stout Street Eye Clinic. -- $40,944 Community Health Services - Adams County Health Education and Behavioral Health Services -- Enhance services provided at three pediatric health clinics by adding behavioral health services at two community-based clinics and a health educator at a school-based health center. -- $57,655 Community College of Aurora Foundation - Adams, Arapahoe, and Denver Increasing Underrepresented Student Access to Health Careers -- Create the Healthcare Bridge Certificate program to add to the pipeline of culturally and linguistically diverse individuals pursuing healthcare careers. -- $20,072 Community College of Denver - Arapahoe and Denver Dental Clinic Services -- Provide start-up costs to support the dental hygiene clinic in offering limited restorative dental services. -- $58,000 Denver Children's Home - Denver, Adams, Alamosa, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Douglas, Eagle, El Paso, Elbert, Fremont, Jefferson, Larimer, Logan, Morgan, Pitkin, Pueblo, Washington, and Weld County Community Based Services -- Support behavioral health services, including Intensive In- Home Therapy, the Family Resource Center and Outpatient Therapy. -- $50,000 3

4 Denver Indian Family Resource Center - Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson Seventh Generation: Reclaiming Healthy Traditions -- Increase access to affordable health care services and implement healthy living and nutrition practices to reduce health disparities. -- $50,000 Denver Indian Health and Family Services, Inc. - Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson Building A Stronger Behavioral Health Program -- Provide mental health treatment services for young children and their families and engage in a planning effort to design an integrated behavioral health program for Native American and Alaskan Indian children and youth. -- $65,000 Inner City Health Center - Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Jefferson, and Douglas Dental Clinic Program -- Increase access to dental care for underserved Coloradans by implementing practice improvements and expanding a safety-net dental practice. -- $100,000 Jewish Family Service of Colorado - Arapahoe and Denver International KidSuccess -- Support a school-based counseling program that provides culturally sensitive and trauma-informed mental health services to refugee and immigrant children and adolescents in Denver Public Schools and Aurora Public Schools. -- $65,000 MDS Counseling Center - Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Gilpin, Jefferson, and Larimer Options Program -- Provide counseling services for low-income, uninsured adults, children and families in need. -- $50,000 Mt. Evans Home Health and Hospice - Jefferson, Clear Creek, Gilpin, and Park Mount Evans Telehealth Program -- Create telehealth infrastructure to provide more comprehensive, timely, efficient and effective care of patients in a large rural area. -- $35,000 Project PAVE, Inc. - Denver County School-Based Therapy and Family Advocacy Program -- Provide early intervention counseling and in-depth support services for school-aged children and youth and their families who have experienced or witnessed violence or trauma. -- $24,200 The Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics (RMYC) - Adams County Integrated Behavioral Health Program -- Support the integration of behavioral health professionals in a primary care clinic serving low-income children and youth. -- $50,000 4
