1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Linda Reiner July 14, Caring for Colorado Foundation Awards $2.7 Million in Grants DENVER Keeping with this year s goals of building and supporting the state s mental health, oral health and health care safety net systems, the Caring for Colorado Foundation Board of Director s recently awarded $2.7 million in grants to 51 organizations throughout Colorado. Beneficiaries include: Garfield County Public Health to provide preventive oral health care services to underserved elementary and middle school students in Garfield, Eagle and Pitkin counties; Mineral County Board of County Commissioners to establish a new dental clinic in Creede; Community Partnership for Child Development in Colorado Springs to support behavioral health and social and emotional programming for disadvantaged children in early childhood education programs; Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center to provide mental health services for school children in Pueblo City Schools; and funding to Mountain Family Health Center in Rifle to continue to expand their capacity to provide comprehensive health services to un- and under-insured people on the Western Slope. The foundation s most recent round of funding illustrates our continuing efforts to close the health care gaps in Colorado and improve the overall health of Coloradans, said Chris Wiant, president and CEO of Caring for Colorado. Created from the sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado to Anthem Inc. in 1999, Caring for Colorado is dedicated to improving the health and health care of the people of Colorado by partnering with communities to strengthen programs that promote and improve oral health, mental health, healthy children and families, the health care workforce and overall community health. Grants approved by the board in June, are listed below. 2 Colorado Center on Law and Policy - Statewide Enrollment in Medicaid for Criminal Justice Populations -- Support and facilitate Medicaid enrollment of people involved in the criminal justice system to enable access to health care. -- $30,300 Colorado Children's Healthcare Access Program - Statewide Support the Integration of Behavioral Health Care for Children in Pediatric and Family Medicine Practices across Colorado -- Improve the behavioral health of children through prevention and early intervention in the primary care setting and by supporting practices in integrating care, conducting enhanced screening, supporting families and navigating to services. -- $39,200 Colorado Legacy Foundation - Statewide Behavioral Health Services for High Needs Schools -- Increase social, emotional and behavioral health resources at Colorado schools by helping school districts accurately identify and assess elementary students' behavioral health needs and strengthen schoolbased interventions and services. -- $29,800 Metro Crisis Services, Inc. - Statewide Statewide Expansion of Behavioral Health Hotline and Warmline Services -- Expand behavioral health hotline and warmline services to a state-wide platform and support the outreach efforts of regional coordinators. -- $39,600 Small Business Majority Foundation Inc. - Statewide Training Assistance Sites to Support Small Businesses -- Provide training to all Colorado assistance sites interested in learning how to provide Affordable Care Act outreach, education and enrollment assistance to small business owners. -- $50,000 University of Colorado Foundation - Statewide Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science to Medical Doctor Program -- Support a combined degree program offering Colorado students from a broad range of academic, economic, geographic and cultural backgrounds a continuous path to obtain undergraduate and medical degrees. -- $50,000 Denver Metropolitan Region American Diabetes Association-Colorado Area - Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, and Jefferson Por Tu Familia -- Support an evidence-based diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention program for 200 underserved Latinos, as well as outreach and navigation services to additional underserved populations. -- $35,000 2
