The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Tracks the enrollment of all student loan borrowers Contains records of recipients of federal grants and persons who owe an overpayment on a federal grant or federal Perkins loan
What s In NSLDS? Federal student loans Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP) loans Federal Direct loans Perkins loans Federal grants Pell Grants Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) National Science & Mathematics to Retain Talent Grants (SMART) Enrollment
NSLDS Data Transferred to ISIR upon completion of the FAFSA Received from: Schools Federal loan servicers Other ED programs Central Processing System Pell Grant program
Using NSLDS to Determine Eligibility
Conditions That Affect Title IV Eligibility Transfer students Prior default/overpayment of grant Bankruptcy Prior discharge due to total and permanent disability Aggregate loan limits

NSLDS and the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) Student not in the database Comment that student s Social Security number is not in database No relevant history No information will be provided Processing problem C code Student will contact financial aid
Changes After the Initial Match Post-screening Is not required to check for changes If you learn from a source other than NSLDS that the student is ineligible, you must resolve the issue before any delivery or disbursement Will be notified if there are significant changes Default or overpayment New output documents Changes will be noted with a # sign
Transfer Student Monitoring Requires action on your part! Use Transfer Student Monitoring process for transfer students Allows you to receive updated loan history Other conditions have an effect on eligibility
