4 1. Introduction This report details the findings of a re inspection of Asbestos Containing s commissioned by Len Smith. Unless otherwise stated, the purpose of the re inspection was to examine the condition of asbestos containing materials located at the premises examined to enable compliance with Regulation 4.9 of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 (CAWR 2002). All work has been undertaken in accordance with our standard terms and conditions. 2. Duty to Manage Asbestos in Non Domestic Premises Regulation 4 of the CAWR 2002 prescribes duties that must be complied with when managing the risk from asbestos in non domestic premises. Regulation 4.(9) CAWR states that such measures should where necessary include: a. Monitoring of the condition of asbestos or suspect materials. b. Proper maintenance or removal of such materials. c. Provision of information about the location and condition of such materials is provided to every person liable to disturb it and the emergency services. Regulation 4.(10) CAWR states that measures must be taken to: a. Review and revise the management plan. b. Implement the measures specified in the plan. c. Record such implementation. This re inspection has been carried out to provide information to satisfy the requirement of Regulation 4.(9). to monitor the condition of asbestos containing materials. It is the clients responsibility to implement the remaining requirements of Regulation 4. Monitoring of the condition of identified asbestos containing materials is recommended at least every six months to a year or at shorter intervals as advised to enable compliance with regulation 4.(9) of CAWR. 3. Results The findings of the re inspection are detailed in appendix 1 of this report. During this re inspection, comparison has been made to results from the last inspection or the original survey. Where the original survey or previous inspection was not undertaken by Bodycote Ensecon, then no responsibility can be accepted for the accuracy of the information received or asbestos types originally detected. All asbestos containing items known to be present at the last inspection or survey have been examined and their current condition and circumstances recorded. For each item the material assessment and priority assessment have been recalculated for comparison to the previous results. Report Number: W Page 4 of 11

5 Where there has been no change in the assessments then no further action will be recommended other than re inspect on the recommended date. Where there has been a change in the assessment values then this will be recorded and revised recommendations made. Where an items material score has increased since the last inspection this will have been due to deterioration in condition and/or surface treatment. Where a priority score has changed this will be due to a change in the accessibility of the material. Such changes will be noted in the appendix. 4. Where no changes to the material or priority assessments have been made then no changes to original recommendations will be made. Where asbestos containing materials have been removed completely then no action will be recommended and the items concerned removed from the schedule for re inspection on the next occasion. If an item has not been re inspected due to a lack of access or other wise then this will be stated. Where changes to the material or priority assessments have been made, then one or more of the following recommendations will be made. Remove Repair/Encapsulate Environmental Clean Air Monitoring Restrict Access Prohibit Access Removal of asbestos containing materials is recommended on the basis that its condition and location could result in exposure to persons, spread of asbestos, or release to the environment. Repair or complete encapsulation is recommended as an alternative to removal. Where reasonably safe and possible to do so. Recommended where contamination from existing or removed asbestos containing materials could result in exposure, spread, or release of asbestos into the environment. Recommended where the risk of exposure of persons to airborne asbestos fibre may be possible and determination of such exposure is warranted. Access to be restricted to personnel working under controlled circumstances with protection where determined. Prohibit access to all personnel pending remedial action. Re inspect Periodically Re inspection of ACM s every 6 months to a year. Report Number: W Page 5 of 11

Where no items appear in the table, no suspect ACM s have been found. Regulation 4.(9) of CAWR states that the condition of all asbestos containing material must be monitored. We would advise that such monitoring should, as a minimum, take place at least every six months to a year or at shorter intervals as advised. Unless stated otherwise, P3 priority items require no immediate action.
