Call For MIT Board Volunteers The MIT Club of South Texas is looking for people who would like to: be officers, be board members, or just get more involved. We always pair new volunteers with a seasoned volunteer on a specific event / activity, so new volunteers get over the learning curve quickly. A lot of volunteers just start by showing up at board meetings to help out, and then later serve as Committee Chairs, Board Directors, or Board Officers. Learn more... Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams 2013 Houston Area School Wins 2013 Invention Grant for "3D Glasses Washer" 2

3 The Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam initiative inspires a new generation of inventors by engaging students in creative thinking, problem-solving and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Each InvenTeam receives up to $10,000 in grant funding to create and pursue a yearlong invention project addressing a real-world problem. Three Houston area teams have won in 2011 and 2012, and we are pleased to announce that Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas has been selected for their 3D Glasses Washer project. Elkins HS is one of 15 high schools selected for Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams Awards in In June 2014, students, teachers, and mentors representing each InvenTeam travel to Cambridge, Mass., for the Lemelson-MIT Program's EurekaFest, a multi-day celebration of the inventive spirit. During EurekaFest, InvenTeams showcase their prototypes at a public exhibit and attend workshops for guidance on sustaining an inventive culture. The Elkins HS Team is requesting guidance from local MIT Alumni in both general project management and technical disciplines. Learn more about their project and the technical areas that they need assistance in The Elkins HS Team will have their Mid-Year Technical Review on February 22, 2014 and MIT Alumni are invited to participate. Learn more LEAP Program for Local Teachers Do You Know A Science or Math Teacher That Would Like to Attend a 1 Week Summer Session at MIT? The Club recognizes key science and math teachers who are making a difference and to support their ongoing commitment to educating our youth in science and technology. We invite science and math teachers from the Greater Houston/South Texas Area to apply for the 2014 MIT Leadership in Education Award (LEAP).
