4 Your Insurance Program The CIMA Companies, Inc Killarney Dr., Suite 202 Woodbridge VA One of the benefits of Center for Non-Profits membership! The CIMA Companies, Inc. provides both directors and officers (D&O) liability insurance and volunteer insurance for nonprofit organizations -- in New Jersey and nationwide -- through its Volunteers Insurance Service (VIS ) program. The company, based in Woodbridge, VA, has a long history of developing programs that address the real risks that nonprofit organizations face. While other insurance programs have come and gone, depending on market conditions, CIMA always has come through with practical alternatives at reasonable rates. For Center members, there's an added benefit The $135 annual fee that normally is required for membership in VIS is waived. Directors and Officers Insurance Directors and Officers Insurance Directors and officers of nonprofit organizations face virtually the same exposures to lawsuits as do corporate directors and officers. Among nonprofits, the most frequent allegation involving board liability is employment practices -- wrongful termination, for example, or discrimination in hiring practices. Traditional, commercial general liability insurance usually does not respond to such allegations, or to most other legal actions nonprofit boards are likely to face. Here is a look at some of the key features of the D&O coverage available through CIMA, for Center members All past, present and future directors, officers, employees, volunteers, trustees, committee and the entity itself are covered. What's more, the severability feature protects all the remaining insureds if it transpires that any individual insured provided false information on the application. Employment practices are covered. Wrongful termination; failure to hire or promote; discrimination, including sexual harassment; and other such practices are covered. So are claims alleging mental anguish and emotional distress. Punitive damages can be covered in states where those damages are insurable. The insurer pays all defense costs up front. The organization does not have to hire attorneys or in any other way manage its own defense. Coverage for what many carriers exclude. Here are some examples of allegations that can be made against the organization that are covered, in the CIMA program: Libel, slander or defamation; invasion of privacy; wrongful entry or eviction; false arrest; false imprisonment; malicious prosecution; and infringement of copyright, or trademark or other unauthorized use of title; plagiarism or other misappropriation of ideas. Volunteer Insurance Volunteer Insurance Center members volunteers do so much to meet the needs of others. CIMA has the insurance program for their needs! If a volunteer is injured or injures someone else, his or her own insurance probably will not be enough to take care of the damage. That's where the VIS program comes in. It's a great benefit for volunteers, and a great recruiting tool! For only a few dollars a year, the organization can provide the extra protection that volunteers often need. The VIS program offers three coverages, separately or in any combination: Accident medical reimbursement -- Up to $50,000, for $3.75 per volunteer per year; Volunteer liability -- Up to $1 million, for $1.72 per volunteer per year ($100 minimum premium); Excess automobile liability -- Up to $500,000, for $6.04 per volunteer per year ($100 minimum premium) Total cost if all three coverages are elected: $11.51 for each volunteer. CIMA takes care of all aspects of administration, and claims-handling. Once a year, we invoice the Center member for the greatest number of volunteers it expects to have at any given time in the next 12 months. We keep it simple!
5 Insurance for office operations Contact Information We also can provide coverage for CNPC members office operations, in addition to covering volunteers, directors and officers allowing members to have their entire insurance program in one place. Coverages for operations can include: Property Commercial general liability Business auto Electronic data processing Crime Building ordinance Umbrella Professional liability, if applicable Center members may contact Aaron Jones at CIMA or Or, you can go to click on "Directors and Officers Liability," and go directly to a description of the program and an application.
