Program Components Getting Started June 14, 2013, 9 am 3:30 pm Obtaining Work Responsibly July 19, 2013, 9 am 3:30 pm Operations & Management of Work August 23, 2013, 9 am 3:30 pm Risk Management of Work October 4, 2013, 9 am 3:30 pm The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) initiated the Contractor Training Series as a component of the Engineering and Construction Management Program. The intent of this program is to increase the capacity of certified SWMBE firms to succeed on construction and engineering projects with MMSD and the City of Milwaukee, as well as build the managerial capacity of non traditional participants employed by MMSD and City of Milwaukee contractors and consultants. Bloom s role in the program is to provide a comprehensive construction management seminar program to achieve these goals. Bloom s training is sensitive to the schedules of entrepreneurs and is taught by industry experts. Bloom will provide an instructor with first hand experience working with MMSD, the City of Milwaukee, and the construction industry. The seminars will teach contractor's how to obtain, operate and manage work. They will also discuss the essentials of managing project risk. This training will increase their knowledge of doing business in the construction industry, and thereby increase their own success and create opportunities for others to do the same. Our seminars are tailored to leaders of engineering and construction firms with varied educational backgrounds. Small, women, minority, and disadvantaged business owners and key associates can enroll in the program at no cost. A commitment to this enriching training/mentoring experience will yield benefits for years to come. Classes will fill up fast, so please don t delay. Applications will be reviewed by representative or designees from MMSD, the City of Milwaukee, and Bloom Companies. DO NOT DELAY. Class sizes are limited. Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is a regional government agency that provides water reclamation and flood management services for about 1.1 million customers in 28 communities in the Greater Milwaukee Area. It serves 411 square miles that cover all, or segments of, six watersheds. Established by state law, MMSD is governed by 11 commissioners with taxing authority. Besides their core responsibilities, MMSD recognizes its social responsibility to create a robust regional economy and to diversify its construction workforce. To that end, MMSD maintains an extensive Workforce Development Training and Placement Program to serve as the catalyst for accomplishing these MMSD goals: Ensure a diverse and qualified workforce exists for its capital projects. Increase the capacity of small, minority, and women owned businesses in the construction and engineering industries to compete for the District s capital projects. Build the managerial capacity of non traditional participants employed by MMSD and/or the City of Milwaukee. contractor training
