1 THE EDGBASTON PRIVATE MEDICAL PRACTICE THE PATIENT GUIDE The Edgbaston Private Medical Practice provides a wide range of private GP services in addition to non- invasive cosmetic procedures and occupational health services for individuals, families, companies and firms. The practice aims to provide an excellent standard of care, meeting the needs of all patients and clients whilst providing a flexible service which will fit around you. The Edgbaston Private Medical Practice is regulated be the CQC (Care Quality Commission). ID Number: The CQC is a regulatory body who ensure hospitals, care homes, dental and GP surgeries, and all other care services within England provide people with safe, effective, compassionate and high- quality care. TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE The Edgbaston Private Medical Practice provides a full range of medical services as expected of any general medical practice. Routine antenatal care is not normally provided but can be organised via a local Obstetrician. Other than this, the full range of services includes consultation, examination, diagnosis and management of the physical, social and psychological needs of individuals and families. Provision of medical services includes the following, which is not exhaustive: Prevention, diagnosis and management of: Coronary heart disease, gastro- intestinal disease such as ulcers, colitis, bowel cancer and piles, cancer of all areas of the body, gynaecological problems such as difficulties with periods, management of menopause and HRT, breathing difficulties; also chronic disease management including hypertension, diabetes and asthma. We also carry out health screening including cervical smears and advice with regards to breast screening. Executive medical screens are carried out both for individuals and companies. We carry out general medical diagnosis and management, with the provision of private prescriptions if required. 2 Health screening Heart risk assessment HGV, PCV, DVLA, taxi driver and fork lift driver medicals Lung function tests (Spirometry) Occupational health Pre- placement and insurance medicals Private prescriptions Referral for x- rays, ultrasounds, MRI scans and CT scans Referral to consultants Resting ECG and exercise ECG Seasonal flu vaccination Sexual health screening Stress management and counselling Travel vaccinations Weight management and dietary advice COSMETIC TREATMENTS At the Edgbaston Private Medical Practice, we provide a range of non- invasive cosmetic procedures which can help clients achieve a rejuvenated and more youthful the appearance. Treatments include: Muscle relaxant injections for fine lines & wrinkles and hyperhidrosis Dermal filler injections for fine lines & wrinkles, lips and facial contours Chemical peels for acne and fine lines & wrinkles The practice also provides a range of cosmaceutical skin care and beauty products produced by Skin Doctors, Pharmagel and Skincare Cosmetics which are available for sale from the practice. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE Occupational health care is provided to small companies and large business firms on site. Services include: Back to work medicals Drug testing Employee health checks Employee medical questionnaires designed to fit your specific requirements Executive health checks Health and safety advice Health promotion HGV, PCV, DVLA and fork lift driver medicals Lung function tests (Spirometry) Management of sickness absence Pre- placement medicals Page 2 of 8
3 Personalised medical testing e.g. bloods, urine, ECG Referral for x- rays, CT scans, MRI scans or to consultants Regular health checks for day and night workers Seasonal flu vaccinations HOURS OF BUSINESS Business hours are from Monday to Friday. Early morning, late evening and weekend appointments can be arranged on mutual agreement with the clinician. A limited service is provided for 10 days annually, where appointments are available every other day. OUT OF HOURS Emergency services are not routinely supplied by the Edgbaston Private Medical Practice. Out of hours arrangements are as indicated by your NHS GP. Under no circumstance should urgent messages be left on the answer phone. CONSULTATIONS Consultations generally last 20 minutes, but longer appointments can be arranged upon request or under specific circumstances such as during health screens and medical examinations. Patients, especially those living abroad or in this country can request appointments by , telephone or using our online booking system. HEALTH SCREENING The practice offers annual health screening to all adults. The health check includes a comprehensive assessment of the individual s physical and mental health with appropriate investigations, reports and follow- ups. TRAVEL VACCINATIONS The practice offers a full range of travel vaccinations and advice service. PRACTICE POLICY The practice does not hold special clinics for chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes or hypertension. These issues are dealt with during routine consultations. We have a policy in place to recall all patients with a chronic condition in accordance with accepted disease surveillance protocol. RESULTS OF INVESTIGATIONS Page 3 of 8
4 Most results are received within hours, although some can take up to 2 weeks. The patient will be informed by telephone if the result is abnormal. A copy of all the test results are ed or posted to the patient or their NHS GP, in accordance with the patient s wishes. REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS Patients on regular medication requiring repeat prescriptions may telephone, post, fax or a request. Do not wait until medication has actually run out. AMOUNT & METHOD OF PAYMENT OF CHARGES An up- to date fee schedule is noted below. This is changed annually on 01 August. By individual request to staff members, costs for x- rays and individual blood tests will be given. It is a requirement of the practice that no test or procedure will be carried out unless the client has been informed of the charges that will be incurred and has given their informed consent. PAYMENT Almost all of our patients now pay via credit or debit card or direct debit. Everything is payable at the time of the consultation and before leaving the building. Companies will be invoice separately. Payment is expected from companies within two weeks from the date of the invoice release. Overseas insurance companies do cover fees for GP visits, tests, investigations and x- rays.
