3 Outlook tries its best to help users manage junk mail before it gets to the Inbox. Also, Outlook will do its best to protect users from phishing scams that are designed to bilk users out of their money Set up protection level Click on the Mail icon on the View Switcher From the Ribbon, go to Home tab click on the Junk button choose Junk Protection In the Junk Protection dialog box, do the following: Click Level tab and choose one of the following levels of protection: None - to turn off junk protection Low to move the really obvious junk to the Junk folder High to move most junk s to Junk folder, however some valid messages may be moves as well so you should check the Junk folder often Exclusive to move all messages to the Junk folder except those from contacts in the Address Book, from domains in the Safe Domains list, and addresses in the Mailing List Manager To delete messages in the Junk folder after a certain number of days, select Delete message from the junk folder older than option enter the number of days in the text box Lasted Edited:
4 Click the Safe Domains tab enter domains that you wish to receive messages from under the Safe Domains text box and separate them by commas, for example:gmail.com, mscd.edu, hotmail.com Lasted Edited:
5 Click the Blocked Senders tab If you are constantly receiving junk from specific senders, or if you want to receive a sender s but don t want it to appear in your Inbox under Blocked Senders text box, enter in the domains of senders you want to automatically be sent to your Junk folder Lasted Edited:
6 Remove Spam from Inbox Click on the Mail icon on the View Switcher From the Ribbon, go to Organize tab click Reading Pane button choose Hidden to hide the Reading Pane to avoid sending a message back to a spammer that might open the floodgates to receive more spam In the Items Pane, right click on the suspicious spam message point to Junk Mail and do one of the following: Click on Mark as Junk to move the Junk folder. Any more s from this sender will be automatically placed into the Junk folder. Lasted Edited:
7 Click on Block Sender to add the domain to the Block Sender list If you have already opened the message, go to Message tab click on Junk button choose Mark as Junk or Block Sender Recover Message from Spam Folder Click on the Mail icon on the View Switcher Lasted Edited:
8 In the Navigation Pane, go to Junk folder and do one of the following: Right click on an message point to Junk Mail click on Mark as Not Junk to add the sender s address to the list of Safe Senders and move the message to the Inbox folder Open the message and on the upper right click on the button that says Mark as Not Junk Tips to prevent spam messages Sometimes spammers can tell if you opened their message, which causes you to get even more spam messages. To prevent this, do the following: Turn off the reading pane while organizing your Inbox or Junk folder Delete all junk from unknown sources before opening Lasted Edited:
