1 ACADEMIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ALLIED HEALTH PROGRAMS 2016 DMS (Diagnostic Medical Sonography) two- and four-year degree Complete all general course requirements listed in DMS curriculum (which is on the DMS fact sheets) Pass Physics** with a grade of C or higher. Pass BIO 10104/10204 Principles of Human A & P I*** with a grade of C or higher Pass AHC Intro. to Allied Health Professions with C or higher All applicants must take RIO s entrance exam (COMPASS test). ACT composite score of 20 or higher (required of students graduated less than 5 years by start of summer semester 2016) Application deadline date: April 1, Courses may be in progress when applying for the program. Grades from last above courses taken will be used. *Prerequisites: MTH (C or better) or TEC (C or better) or placement into higher-level math course via placement exam ENG (C- or better) or placement into higher-level English course via placement exam **Prerequisites: MTH (C or better) or TEC (C or better) or placement into higher-level math course via placement exam ENG (C- or better) or placement into higher-level English course via placement exam ***Prerequisites: C or better in High School Biology AND Chemistry. Must have completed ENG with a C- or better and MTH with a C- or better or placement in the higher-level English and Math courses via placement exam Students enrolled in ENG or MTH cannot enroll in BIO Cannot apply to this program as a senior in high school. You have to attend college and complete all general education courses first in order to apply to this program.

4 4 COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) two-year degree Partnership with Shawnee State University Official acceptance as student at Shawnee and RIO Take COTA courses at Shawnee (have to go to Shawnee one or two days a week for classes) Clinical rotations will be in area hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities Take general courses at RIO Send financial aid info on FASFA form to both Shawnee and RIO 20 hours of observation in hospital or healthcare facility Short biographical paper High School or College Biology passed with a C or higher (taken within last 5 years) (taken within last 5 years) High School or College Algebra passed with a C or higher (taken within last 5 years) GPA 2.0 or higher ACT composite score of 18 Brief interview with program director (Application deadline is February 1, 2016) High School seniors applying for this program must submit an official copy of transcript that shows 7 semesters completed in high school attached to the COTA application. Courses may not be in progress when applying for the program. An official copy of your RIO transcript or any other college transcript needs to be sent to Shawnee before the deadline showing the last completed semester of college and current courses enrolled in for spring semester (if taking courses spring). See Vicki Crabtree for wavier form of transcript fee. All applications should be checked by Vicki Crabtree before being submitted to Shawnee. Grade from last above course taken will be used. 5 5 PROGRAMS THAT DO NOT HAVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS OR REQUIRED COURSES BEFORE ENTERING: MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT (two-year degree) No admission requirements All applicants are required to take RIO s COMPASS (entrance exam) to determine placement into math, English, and reading. MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST One-year certificate program. Starts Fall Semester each year. All applicants are required to take RIO s COMPASS (entrance exam) to determine placement into math, English, and reading. Test into Composition I Must be able to type 40 wpm for 3-5 minutes using proper posture and technique* No application. No application deadline. *If you do not meet this prerequisite, it will take you longer than a year to complete this program as you will need to take OT Beginning Keyboarding. This is a course prerequisite not a program prereq. HCA (Health Care Administration) Bachelor of Technical Studies Applied Health Care Administration BTS degree (2 + 2 degree) complete a two-year associate degree in an allied health area Add business courses and health care management courses to two-year associate degree No application process Additional general education courses are also required
