2 About Impact Impact is a college readiness organization. We help students prepare for and connect with college. During this academic school year, Impact will assist 5,000 Chicago area students in becoming college and career ready. In all practicality we are an additional resource to assist parents, educators, and guidance counselors in finding a college that is a good fit for students. Our target population consist of junior and senior level students in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. We provide workshops and resources through on-site visits during the school day. The presenter effortlessly grabbed the attention of our students and captivated them. I would recommend the 5K District Initiative Program to other high schools. Guidance Counselor Phillips High School, Chicago Public School 5K District Initiative The free college readiness workshops and resources are available to school districts in five counties: Cook, Kane, Will, DuPage, and Lake. To activate the service, the superintendent or representative from the district office completes the 5K District Initiative form. To date we are actively working with school districts in Cook and Will County. Our current focus is on Districts 204, 205, 209, 215, 218, 227, and 228. The high schools in these districts are: Rich Central, Rich East, Rich South-227, Thornton, Thornwood, Thornridge -205, Thornton Fractional North, Thornton Fractional South-215, Eisenhower, Richards, Shepard-218, Proviso East, Proviso West, Proviso Math & Science Academy-209, Hillcrest, Bremen, Tinley Park, Oak Forest -228, Joliet Central, and Joliet West Giving Back to the Community Admissions & Financial Aid Representative have joined in our efforts to raise awareness and access to quality post-secondary options for Chicago-area students. Professionals from the following colleges volunteer their time to ensure the 5K District Initiative is a success: St. Mary s - Notre Dame, Chicago State University, Southern Illinois University- Carbondale and Merrimack College. These professionals are all dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Chicago-land youth. 3 Pick a test date that is at least two months ahead of the application deadlines of all the colleges and scholarship agencies you might want to apply to. Scores for the ACT are normally reported within 2 8 weeks after the test date. If you take the ACT with writing, scores will be reported only after all of your scores are available, including writing, normally within 5 8 weeks after the test date. Advantages to testing in your junior year: ACT TEST Tip #1 Open an account at the ACT Official Guide actstudent.org You've probably completed the coursework corresponding to the test material. You'll have your test scores and other information in time to help you plan your senior year. (For example, you may decide to take an additional class in an area in which your test score was low.) Colleges will know of your interests and have your scores in time to contact you during the summer before your senior year, when many of them are sending information about admissions, course placement, scholarships, and special programs to prospective students. You'll have information about yourself and the schools you're considering prior to your campus visits, making your visits more focused. You'll have the opportunity to retest if you feel your scores don't accurately reflect your abilities in the areas tested. Designed for high school seniors, Open House is where students and their parents can take a campus tour, visit residence halls, learn about admissions, scholarships, financial aid, and life on campus. Tip #2 Purchase at least two (2) reputable study guides. Suggestions: Kaplan, McGraw-Hill, or Princeton Review. Tip #3 Register early, at least 3 months before the exam, to make sure you get the ACT test date and testing center you want Tip #4 Plan a reasonable study schedule. Create a study schedule that permits you enough time to practice between now and your test date. Tip #5 Use all of the time permitted for each section. Review any questions you were unsure about. Tip #6 Manage your time wisely. Never skip an ACT question, because if you don't have time at the end it will go unanswered, and a good guess is much better than leaving it blank. Always use timed practice tests to check your pace. Tip #7 The ACT is comprised of five tests: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing (optional). These sections have different numbers of questions, and different time limits, both of which present different challenges regarding pacing. Develop a pacing strategy for each unique test, and practice so that you can finish within the allotted time. A church that offers spiritual and emotional guidance and biblical teachings to community members. The church organizes a wide range of events, including youth and teen conferences. Family Harvest Church began in 1981 and is located in Tinley Park, Illinois.
