Topics I part: Where you can use the software? How to get access? How to get started with ANSYS products? How many licenses are available? How to get help/documentation? II part: Overview of the products available in the ANSYS Workbench ANSYS Fluent Web portal interface Demonstration Questions and Answers
Where you can use the software? site login node Mannheim/Heidelberg gtbw.grid.uni-mannheim.de Esslingen Karlsruhe sccbwgrid1.fzk.de Stuttgart gridway.dgrid.hlrs.de Esslingen grid01.hs-esslingen.de Tübingen gt4.uni-tuebingen.de Freiburg globus.bfg.uni-freiburg.de Ulm/Konstanz koios.rz.uni-ulm.de
Homepage of the bwgrid project
How to get access to the bwgrid cluster? 1. DFN Grid-Zertifikat allocated by the computing centre of the respective university 2. Membership in the virtual organization (VO) bwgrid /vo/bwgrid/vomrs 3. A middleware Client the Globus Toolkit can be used as Grid middleware GSI-SSHTerm can be used as an easy way for connecting to the Grid
Access via GSI-SSH Term Login node Port your DFN user certificate pfx and p12 files (.p12,.pfx)
How to get started with ANSYS products? The installed software is available via the module environment: > module load cae/ansys/13.0 Launching ANSYS products: > runwb2 ANSYS Workbench > fluent ANSYS FLUENT > cfx5 ANSYS CFX > ansys130 g Mechanical APDL > anshelp130 ANSYS 13.0 Help
ANSYS Workbench Common data usage both systems use the same geometry Toolbox Analysis Systems Component Systems Custom Systems Design Exploration Fluid problem with FLUENT Coupling of two systems cells Static structural analysis with ANSYS Mechanical Data transfer the solution of the CFD part is the initial condition of the setup cell of the mechanical part
The cells Engineering Data Library with predefined material properties. Geometry Starts the Design Modeler. Model Mesh Setup(ANSYS) Starts the Mechanical program. Further geometry properties can be specified, e.g. coordinate systems and the structure will be meshed. Starts the Mesh program for CFD solver. Mesh properties can be specified, the mesh strategy identified, and the solution space will be meshed. Continuous the Mechanical program by specification of further model properties (e.g. material properties, boundary conditions and loads, etc.) and solver parameters. Setup (FLUENT) Starts the GUI of Fluent for further model description. Setup (CFX) Starts the CFX-Pre for further model description Solution Results Starts the appropriate solver manager. Opens the post processor of the appropriate program. For ANSYS the post processor of Mechanical is started, for Fluent and CFX the CFD-Post will be started.
Example: the Geometry cell imports an.agdb file or files in other CAD formats duplicates the analysis system links to other analysis systems or component systems makes an update of the cell reads the information of the cells before it deletes all information from the cell changes the name of the analysis system or component system defines cell properties opens context help
The Workbench files ANSYS Workbench project database file.wbpj Engineering Data.eddb DesignModeler.agdb ANSYS Mechanical.mechdb ANSYS APDL.db ANSYS FLUENT.cas,.dat,.msh ANSYS CFX.cfx,.def,.res,.mdef,.mres CFX-Mesh.cmdb
ANSYS Fluent FLUENT is a finite volume program for the calculation of flow problems. The problems which can be treated are described as follows: isotherm and non-isotherm compressible and non-compressible flows laminar and turbulence flows stationary and unsteady flows Newtonian and non-newtonian flows multiphase fluid dynamics (flow-flow, flow-solid) heat conduction and convection active grid free surface chemical reactions combustion process
ANSYS Fluent GUI Standard Toolbar Graphics Toolbar Menu Bar Graphics Window Navigation Pane Task Page Console

Licensing How many licenses are available? The provided license allows a concurrently usage of 25 ANSYS products and 69 parallel processes. (License Feature Names: aa_r, aa_mcad, aa_r_hpc) What are the license conditions? Usage of ANSYS products only for non-commercial purposes allowed Terms of use can be found under: How is the license management done? FLEXlm license manager Using a floating license model
How to get help/documentation? Online documentation from the GUI: help button from the command line: > anshelp
Documentation General Documentation Release Notes, Installation and Licensing Guides Legal Notices Workbench Documentation, e.g. User s Guide Scripting Guide Structural Mechanics Documentation, e.g. Mechanical Application Mechanical APDL Meshing Documentation, e.g. Meshing Application Fluid Dynamics Documentation, e.g. CFD-Post Users s Guide, Tutorial ANSYS CFX Documentation ANSYS FLUENT Documentation

Tutorial: Fluent in ANSYS Workbench Topics covered: create, solve and post-process of a simple Fluent analysis on ANSYS Workbench The Geometry cell is now up to date the geometry probe.agdb has been imported
Design Modeler The Design Modeler application starts with the loaded geometry
Design Modeler View the summary of all the named faces. To generate and view the mesh
Design Modeler The Mesh and FLUENT input files have been generated and the Mesh cell is up-to-date
Fluent opens with the mesh loaded The model has to be specified in more detail Boundary conditions need to be specified The solution must be initialized before Fluent can begin calculating Select run calculation
Fluent Run calculation
CFD-Post Loads the result in CFD-Post Click insert and select contour
CFD-Post A contour plot of static pressure has been generated on the symmetry boundary. Specify the geometry parameters accordingly
View Files Click View and select Files You can review the project files by displaying all the files associated with the project
Fluent in Batch Mode Example of an.inp file ;read a case file /file/read-case example.cas ;initialize the flow field with the ;current default values /solve/initialize/initialize-flow ;perform 100 iterations /solve/iterate 100 ;write a case and a data file /file/write-case-data example100.dat read case files modification of modeling data (optional) calculation write case/data files termination ;exit program exit yes
How to get a Journal File In order to record a journal file from a session in the command mode you can proceed as follows: 1. Start FLUENT in interactive mode 2. Activate writing a journal file (select File > Write > Start Journal) 3. All further entries have to be in text mode using the keyboard Perform the steps outlined in the diagram on the previous slide (a simulation with only one iterations is useful for testing) 4. Close the journal file in the menu (select File > Write > Stop Journal) 5. Close FLUENT
