2 Dear East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region Member, The East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region is planning for the new marketing year of and would like to present our marketing opportunities buy-in guide. The opportunities listed within this guide are offered to members of the region. This guide has been developed to assist East Central tourism members with promotion of tourism attractions and/or services. This is one of the many benefits offered to you as a tourism region member. The destination area marketing opportunities will create awareness and excitement for the diverse tourism activities located throughout the region. East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region wishes to create opportunities for every size and type of destination area and member operator. Please read through the attached marketing project and buy-in opportunities guide enclosed and if you are interested in any of the following marketing activities offered please complete and return the partnership opportunities form before September 30, 2008 by faxing to (306) ensuring that your are given the opportunity to participate. Funding is distributed depending upon availability and the East Central tourism region will be in contact with you to provide additional information pertaining to the marketing opportunities you are interested in which will be indicated from this buy-in form. 3 East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region Funding Guide Saskatchewan Campaign Opportunities Print Radio TV Outdoor Billboards Components: Destination Summer Guide East Central will be booking display advertisement space in the summer edition of Destination Saskatchewan. This insert is distributed in mid-may in 180,000 newspapers including Regina Leader Post, Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Moose Jaw Times Herald, Yorkton This Week, Prince Albert Daily Herald and Lloydminster Meridian Booster. East Central will provide editorial content within the publication to complement the advertising component. Reserve Advertising Space by March 31, Destination Winter Guide East Central will be booking display advertisement space in the winter edition of Destination Saskatchewan. This insert is distributed in late October in 180,000 newspapers including Regina Leader Post, Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Moose Jaw Times Herald, Yorkton This Week, Prince Albert Daily Herald and Lloydminster Meridian Booster. East Central will provide editorial content within the publication to complement the advertising component. Reserve Advertising Space by September 14, Western Producer Scenic Saskatchewan East Central will be booking display advertisement space in the Western Producer s See Scenic Saskatchewan travel insert. This publication is distributed in May and reaches over 125,000 rural Saskatchewan readers. Along with this advertising campaign the regional office will strive to provide editorial content enhancement to the advertisement. Reserve Advertising Space by March 16, Festivals and Events Promotional Program This is a new program delivered by the East Central Tourism Region assisting festivals and events to apply to East Central for funding advertising campaigns that promote their activity. Funding will be allocated upon approval of the marketing committee. Funding dollars are available up to a maximum of $ per festival or event and/or 50% of advertising activity. Limited amount of funding dollars available so program is offered on a first come first serve basis. Resident Awareness Campaign The province s tourism regions will be leading a province-wide, multimedia campaign in Under this program, attractions and destination areas from across the province will have an opportunity to reach Saskatchewan resident market through newspaper, radio, television, outdoor and internet advertising. This campaign will run mid-may through to late August. The following initiatives will be available as follows: Newspaper Insert (available to 28 partners province wide) 12 page full color gloss insert distributed in 150,000 rural weekly newspapers. Radio (available to 35 partners province wide) Locally produced, 30 second, partner specific spots available on FM stations in Saskatoon and Regina as well as on AM stations broadcasting in northern and southern Saskatchewan. Television (available to 12 partners province wide) Locally produced, 30 second, partner specific spots will be available on CTV Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton, and Prince Albert as well as on Global stations in Saskatoon and Regina. Spots will run from June to mid-august. Internet Banner Ads (available to 35 partners province wide) receives over 70,000 unique visits annually. Web banner advertising will be available on this website for a four month period. Agribition (November 24-29, 2008 Ipsco Place, Regina) This show attracts over 150,000 consumers interested in agricultural tours, general touring, and livestock supplies. This is a must attend for agricultural tour operators and specialty accommodations. Lloydminster Home Showcase (March 27-29, 2009 Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds, Lloydminster) Lloydminster s largest tradeshow featuring home, garden, sports, leisure, agriculture and recreation vehicle displays. Yorkton Harvest Showdown (November 6-8, 2008 Gallagher Center, Yorkton) Harvest Showdown is a premiere fall event hosted by the Yorkton Exhibition Association. The three day event includes seminars, leisure displays, commercial cattle competition and sale along with several equine events. Regina Spring Home & Garden Show (March 26-29, 2009 Ipsco Place, Regina) A large showcase of provincial product. Saskatoon Sports & Leisure Show (March 2009 Prairieland Park, Saskatoon) This show attracts over 15,000 people interested in outdoors, eco-tourism, golfing and general touring. Workshop Components: Package Development Workshops (2 Community Host Opportunities) East Central will provide workshop host opportunity to two communities in 2009 specializing in package development and event marketing. Minimum of 12 participants per workshop.
4 East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region Funding Guide General Touring Campaign Opportunities Tourism Saskatchewan Literature Series Vacation Guide Display advertisements in Tourism Saskatchewan literature submitted by consortia (3 or more operators) and destination areas may be funded up to 50%. Tourism Saskatchewan Vacation Book and Hunting & Fishing Guide are eligible for this program. Direct Mail to CAA Agencies This package will promote the region as a tourism destination and will include a cover letter from the region and member brochures. A total of 140 CAA offices across the nation receive this information. Calgary/Edmonton Sun Insert Spirit of Saskatchewan East Central will be booking display advertisement space in the Spirit of Saskatchewan, a full-color travel insert in the Calgary and Edmonton Sun newspapers. This publication is distributed in June and reaches over 170,000 Alberta households. Regional editorial content well accompany advertisements to enhance the campaign. Yellowhead It Travel Guide Yellowhead Travel Guide is distributed to over 350,000 people who may travel the Yellowhead Highway. Prairies North Publication East Central will be booking display advertisement space in Prairies North Publication Spring Edition Calgary Stampede (July 3-12, 2009 Roundup Centre Stampede Park, Calgary) This show attracts over 1 million consumers of mixed ages and incomes. Areas of interest in general touring and outdoor products/adventure. This tradeshow is based on a shared booth area with Tourism Saskatchewan. Seniors Campaign Opportunities Direct Mail to Saskatchewan Seniors Clubs and Alberta Seniors Clubs Seniors clubs in Saskatchewan and Alberta will receive a direct mail package in April of This package will promote the region as a tourism destination and will include a cover letter from the region with partner member brochures. 390 addresses within Saskatchewan and 240 addresses within Alberta. RV Campaign Opportunities RV West Spring Edition East Central will be booking display advertisement space in the full-color travel magazine. This publication is distributed in June and reaches over 170,000 western Canadian subscribed readers. Along with the advertisement the region will have editorial content to enhance the campaign. Direct Mail to Good Sam Clubs Good Sam RV Club Chapters across Canada will receive direct mail package in April of This package will promote the region as a tourism destination and will include a cover letter from the region with partnered member brochures. Quartzsite RV Show (January 17-25, 2009) This show attracts over 100,000 RV consumers interested in outdoor vacation options such as resorts, camping, fishing, canoeing, hiking and general touring. This tradeshow is based on a shared booth area with Tourism Saskatchewan Outdoor / Adventure Campaign Opportunities Tourism Saskatchewan Literature Series Fish & Hunt Guide Display advertisements in Tourism Saskatchewan literature submitted by consortia (3 or more operators) and destination areas may be funded up to 50%. Tourism Saskatchewan Vacation Book and Hunting & Fishing Guide are eligible for this program. Sno-Riders West Spring Edition with Web Enhancement Benefits Display advertisement opportunities for Events and Attractions related to the ATV and Snowmobiling industry along with accommodations and dealerships. Partner advertisements enhanced with website exposure. The Outdoor Edge East Central will be booking display advertising space in the bi-monthly publication of Western Canadian Wildlife Federation magazine with areas of interest involving hunting, outfitters, fishing and all varieties of accommodations.
5 East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region Funding Guide All Canada Shows (January/February Series of shows hosted in the Mid-West USA representing 11 of the largest outdoor enthusiasts markets. Featuring international exhibitors from Canada s top outdoor destinations; these shows take place January through February. Calgary Boat & Sports Show (February 12-15, 2009 Round Up Centre Stampede Park, Calgary) This show attracts over 40,000 outdoor enthusiasts from the surrounding area seeking information on outdoor adventure, hunting, golfing and general touring. Edmonton Boat & Sportsman Show (March 12-15, 2009 Agricom Northlands Park, Edmonton) This show attracts over 60,000 outdoor enthusiasts. This show features extreme outdoor adventure, golf, hunt, and fishing products. Medicine Hat Home Expo & Leisure Show (March 6-8, 2009 Cypress Exhibition Grounds, Medicine Hat) Home lifestyle show featuring gardening, landscaping, general touring, adventure and accommodations. This show attracted over 35,000 in Great Falls Sports Show (February 6-8, 2009 Montana Expo Park, Great Falls Montana) This show continues to grow and attract vendors, speakers, and demonstrators from around the country to show and sell their products and services. Shot Show Florida (January 15-18, 2009 Orange Country Convention Center, Orlando Florida) The largest most comprehensive trade show for all professionals involved with shooting sports and hunting industries. The shot show attracts buyers from all 50 states and more than 75 countries. North Dakota State Fair (July 24-August 1, 2009 Minot North Dakota) This eight day show offers grandstand productions, agricultural fair, and mid-way attracting over 80,000 people through the entire week. Exhibitors ranging from outdoor enthusiasts, golfing, fish-hunt and snowmobile adventure. TRADESHOW PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITES GUIDELINES Tradeshows are an integral part of marketing for East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region s products and destination areas. To ensure that East Central Sask. Tourism Region tradeshow campaigns are successful and fully assessed by its membership; the following guidelines have been established. The primary focus of the booth must be tourism promotion that results in travel generation. Cannot be retail focused. All tradeshow participants must be members, in good standing, of the East Central Saskatchewan Tourism Region. Nonmembers cannot be promoted or participate in a tradeshow. If non-members are promoted tradeshow funding will be declined. Partnerships of a minimum of three members are eligible to receive funding to participate in a tradeshow. Evaluation of projected expenses of the tradeshow will establish funding to the partnership. Re-imbursement for expenses (mileage, accommodation, meals, booth) for each destination area will be shared equally up to the maximum of 50% of the budget amount for two vehicles, one tradeshow booth 10 X 20 and individual expenses for up to four people. A proposed budget must be submitted for each activity before October 10. Accommodation rates must be reasonable for that location. Mileage funded to a maximum of $0.25 per kilometer. Evaluation and final submission for funding must be completed and submitted to the ECSTR administration office within 30 days of the completion of the tradeshow. Submission must include all invoices pertaining to the tradeshow activity along with proof of payments resulting in $0.00 balances. ECSTR will pay out the approved funds following the completion of the region audit, of that year. Golf shows must have a golf course as a partner at the respective show. The club shall only partner with one booth. MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES All advertising opportunities (ads, direct mails, fam tours, etc.) must include the East Central Tourism Region or Tourism Saskatchewan logo. A proposed budget must be submitted before October 10. Evaluation and final submission for funding must be submitted to the ECSTR administration office within 30 days of the completion of the advertising along with proof of payments resulting in $0.00 balances. ECSTR will pay out the approved funds following the completion of the region audit, of that marketing year.
