1 1 LEAPING THE DIGITAL BUSINESS GAP You can t operate an effective business without using technology and being online. In conjunction with Hutt City Libraries, the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to run a series of three 3-hour modules about being digitally up with the play. The purpose of this series is to provide our members with the effective skills and knowledge to operate online tools, market your business online, work collaboratively, and discover a wealth of business information. Come and find out why your business needs to be digital, and how to make that happen. This series is aimed at business owners and managers. SESSION ONE THURSDAY 26 FEBRUARY 9AM-10.30AM DIGITAL JOURNEY Digital Office s Digital Journey provides an interactive online assessment to determine the current use of online technology in your business. This session is focussed on guiding businesses through the assessment. Through personalised guidance and group discussion the outcomes are: Understand your current online presence and the importance of having a stronger online identity Identify social and digital marketing opportunities Modify business practices to take advantage of digital technology Understand how technology can improve business productivity, reduce costs and increase customer engagement Once completed, a personalised action plan becomes available, including comparison with other organisations in your industry, recommendations for improving the online presence of your business and resources such as case studies, helpful hints and how-to guides AM-12NOON GET ONLINE WITH A WEBSITE AND GOOGLE About Us specialises in getting businesses online so they can be found! 2 2 SESSION TWO THURSDAY 5 MARCH 9AM-10.30AM BUSINESS COMPASS The Learn.fast Centre s Business Compass is a web based tool that helps businesses to easily and quickly assess their strengths and weaknesses in seven important areas of business performance. Answer 34 specifically tailored questions covering seven areas, and receive a self-assessment of your business performance against best practice. Once completed you will receive an automated report of your best practice score and suggested actions you could take in each area to improve your business. Successfully search and locate business-related information from the following online tools Press Display, Masterfile, Mango and various business directories. Discover Lynda.com and it s wealth of business-related tutorials. SESSION THREE THURSDAY 12 MARCH 9AM-10.30AM 2020 Communications Trust specialises in getting New Zealanders to upskill with computers. The International Computer Driver s Licence is an internationally recognised qualification that enables people to demonstrate their competencies in basic and advanced computing skills. You will have access to all 7 modules in the ICDL series: Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel 2007, 2010 or 2013) Computer Essentials (Windows 7) Word Processing (Microsoft Word 2007, 2010 or 1013) Online Collaboration (Google Drive or Microsoft SkyDrive) Presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, 2010 or 2013) Using Databases (Microsoft Access 2007, 2010 or 2013) IT Security More information on ICDL modules is on pages 3-6 Registration entitles you to an assessment of your skills and access to the internationally acclaimed online training modules. A tutor will be available at the session to get you started. Modules can be completed online from anywhere, access is available to you for 12 months. ICDL is not only an internationally recognised qualification, it is recognised by NZQA for NCEA Level 2 credits. A $50 pp excl. GST fee applies to sit the online exams. 3 3 Computer Essentials Windows 7 This module sets out essential concepts and skills relating to the use of devices, file creation and management, networks, and data security. Understand key concepts relating to ICT, computers, devices and software. Start up and shut down a computer. Work effectively on the computer desktop using icons, windows. Adjust the main operating system settings and use built-in help features. Create a simple document and print an output. Know about the main concepts of file management and be able to efficiently organise files and folders. Understand key storage concepts and use utility software to compress and extract large files. Understand network concepts and connection options and be able to connect to a network. Understand the importance of protecting data and devices from malware, and the importance of backing up data. Recognise considerations relating to green IT, accessibility, and user health. Covers the key skills and main concepts relating to ICT, computers, devices, and software. Certifies best practice in effective computer use. IT Security This module allows candidates to understand the main concepts underlying the secure use of ICT in daily life and to use relevant techniques and applications to maintain a secure network connection, use the Internet safely and securely, and manage data and information appropriately. Understand the key concepts relating to the importance of secure information and data, physical security, privacy and identity theft. Protect a computer, device, or network from malware and unauthorised access. Understand the types of networks, connection types, and network specific issues, including firewalls. Browse the World Wide Web; communicate on the Internet securely. Understand security issues related to communications, including and instant messaging. Back up and restore data appropriately and safely; securely dispose of data and devices. Covers the skills needed to understand the key concepts relating to the importance of secure information and data, physical security, privacy, and identity theft. Certifies best practice in IT security.

4 4 Word processing Microsoft Word 2007, 2010 or 2013 This module allows candidates to demonstrate the ability to use a word processing application to accomplish everyday tasks associated with creating, formatting, and finishing small-sized word processing documents, such as letters and other everyday documents. Work with documents and save them in different file formats. Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, to enhance productivity. Create and edit small-sized word processing documents that will be ready to share and distribute. Apply different formats to documents to enhance them before distribution; recognise good practice in choosing the appropriate formatting options. Insert tables, images, and drawn objects into documents. Prepare documents for mail merge operations. Adjust document page settings. Check and correct spelling before finally printing documents. Covers the key skills needed to use a word processing application. Can be applied to a range of word processing software from vendor packages to freeware. Certifies best practice in effective word processing software use. Developed with input from computer users, subject matter experts, and practising computer professionals from all over the world. This process ensures the relevance and range of module content. Online Collaboration Google Drive or Microsoft SkyDrive This module sets out concepts and skills relating to the setup and use of online collaborative tools, such as storage, productivity applications, calendars, social media, web meetings, learning environments, and mobile technology. Understand the key concepts relating to online collaboration and cloud computing. Set up accounts to prepare for online collaboration. Use online storage and web-based productivity applications to collaborate. Use online and mobile calendars to manage and plan activities. Collaborate and interact using social networks, blogs, and wikis. Schedule and host online meetings and use online learning environments. Understand key mobile technology concepts and use features such as , applications, and synchronisation. Covers the key skills needed to understand the main concepts relating to online collaboration and cloud computing. Certifies best practice in effective use of online collaboration tools and mobile technology.

5 5 Presentations Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, 2010 or 2013 This module allows candidates to understand the concept of presentations and to demonstrate competence in using presentation software. Work with presentations and save them in different file formats. Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, within the application to enhance productivity. Understand different presentation views and when to use them; choose different slide layouts and designs. Enter, edit, and format text in presentations. Recognise good practice in applying unique titles to slides. Choose, create, and format charts to communicate information meaningfully. Insert and edit pictures, images, and drawn objects. Apply animation and transition effects to presentations. Check and correct presentation content before finally printing and giving presentations. Covers the key skills needed to use presentation software. Can be applied to a range of presentation software from vendor packages to freeware. Certifies best practice in effective presentation software use. Using Databases Microsoft Access 2007, 2010 or 2013 This module allows candidates to understand the concept of a database and demonstrate competence in using a database. Understand what a database is and how it is organised and operated. Create a simple database and view the database content in various modes. Create a table; define and modify fields and their properties; enter and edit data in a table. Sort and filter a table or form; create, modify and run queries to retrieve specific information from a database. Understand what a form is; create a form to enter, modify, and delete records and data in records. Create routine reports and prepare outputs ready for distribution. Covers the key skills needed to organise and operate a database. Can be applied to a range of database software from vendor packages to freeware. Certifies best practice in effective database software use.

6 6 Spreadsheets Microsoft Excel 2007, 2010 or 2013 This module allows candidates to understand the concept of spreadsheets and to demonstrate an ability to use a spreadsheet to produce accurate work outputs Work with spreadsheets and save them in different file formats. Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, within the application to enhance productivity. Enter data into cells; use good practice in creating lists. Select, sort and copy, move and delete data. Edit rows and columns in a worksheet. Copy, move, delete, and appropriately rename worksheets. Create mathematical and logical formulas using standard spreadsheet functions; use good practice in formula creation; recognise error values in formulas. Format numbers and text content in a spreadsheet. Choose, create, and format charts to communicate information meaningfully. Adjust spreadsheet page settings. Check and correct spreadsheet content before finally printing spreadsheets. Covers the key skills needed to use spreadsheets. Can be applied to a range of spreadsheets software from vendor packages to freeware. Certifies best practice in effective spreadsheets software use.
