4 INVITATION Dear Colleagues, on behalf of the Scientific Committee of the Working Group on "Sexually Transmitted Diseases", of the Italian Society of Clinical Microbiology (AMCLI), it is a great honour and pleasure to organize the International Conference on Chlamydia trachomatis infections which will take place in Como, Italy in May 21-22, Chlamydia trachomatis is today the most prevalent bacterial agent in sexually transmitted disease world-wide. Epidemiological study, counseling and prevention programs are important, particularly in young (< 25 years old) women where undiagnosed and untreated infection may result in such complications as tubal infertility, ectopic pregnancy and pelvic inflammatory disease. Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT's) offer enhanced sensitivity and specificity and also allow the use of non invasive specimen with a great impact in diagnosis and screening programs. During the Conference the most recent findings in subjects including Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, Treatment and Surveillance of Chlamydia trachomatis infections, will be presented by internationally known speakers. The Conference will also serve as an inspiring forum for discussion. I hope that the International Conference on Chlamydia trachomatis Infections will provide an interesting opportunity for dialogue between Microbiologists and Clinicians involved in management of the Chlamydia trachomatis infections. 9 GENERAL INFORMATION LANGUAGE The official language of the Congress will be English. Simultaneous translation will be provided. REGISTRATION DESK The registration desk will be open as follows: Tuesday 21 May Friday 22 May NAME BADGE Participants will be given a name badge when they check in at the registration desk. The name badge must be worn at all times, because only registered participants will be allowed to enter the congress area. CURRENCY Registrations fees and charges for all the events related to the congress as well as hotel or travel costs must be paid in Euro. CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE The certificate of attendance will be issued to those who are properly registered. The certificate of attendance will be available at the registration desk and must be picked up just before departure. CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDITS The Congress will be accredited by the Italian Ministery of Health for Medical Doctor and Biologist. ECM certificate credit points will be sent directly to the participant after the Congress. 10 GENERAL INFORMATION ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION Instructions and Information Congress delegates are cordially invited to submit abstracts of their scientific work as a POSTER (3000 characters, in English or in Italian) within 15 th March Abstracts should be prepared and submitted by the internet only according to the instructions available on the web site Please prepare your abstract according to the instructions given. Properly submitted abstracts will be sent to experts for review and selection. Please remember that if your abstract has been accepted at least one of the authors must be registered to the congress. Further communication will be given later in the confirmation. All authors must bring a printed copy of their poster to be displayed during the congress. 11 REGISTRATION Procedures Registration will be available starting from December Off-line Registration Registration can be submitted by fax using the registration form. A copy of the transfer receipt must be included with the registration form. On-line Registration Through this function all the registrations are carried out directly on line on the website Participation in the Conference is limited to a maximum of 200 participants. It is necessary to click on the section Events and after selecting Conference, click on Registration on-line. Following the instructions the registration and the payment can be made, with bank transfer or credit card. The registrations will be automatically accepted in order of arrival, until exhaustion of the available places. Registrations without payment will not be accepted. 14 COMO Como City, situated on the banks of the lake, is encircled by enchanting hills and is easy to visit. Travelling from Milan to Como takes less than one hour by train and even less time by car. The small extension must not deceive, because in very few other Italian places the visitor may find a so surprising and rich choice of different environments, landscapes and settlements. In few miles you may find the mountains and the lake, the wild Alps valleys and the industrial areas, the urban area and villages of few houses, the fauna oasis in the north and the ski areas in the south. If you are looking for relax or for amusement, in Como town and neighbourhood you will find many bar, cinema, golf club and camping. There are many interesting sites to visit whilst meandering through the streets of Como, historical monuments, beautiful villas and breath-taking sights. The historic centre is located in-side the ancient city walls where there are many shops and boutiques, and plenty of cafes for you to rest, enjoy the view and have a well earned re-freshment. Today Como is a dynamic, business city with an important history in textile (mainly silk) manufacturing and trading. Due to this traditional textile industry the city is commonly referred to as the Silk Capital. 14
