1 CONFERENCE PROGRAMME 2015 Creativity Meets Business Conference
2 WELCOME FROM THE CHAIRS DEAR GUESTS AND PARTICIPANTS, On behalf of the conference organiser and host, the review committee and all CIAKL II project partners, we have the great pleasure to welcome you to the 2015 CMB Conference in Cologne, Germany. With a focus on Entrepreneurial Thinking and Acting in Creative Media Industries, the conference brings together a diverse set of stakeholders interested in linking creativity and business thinking. We believe that entrepreneurship is key to foster employability and business success in creative media industries. Freelancers, business owners, but also employees alike need to develop their entrepreneurial thinking and acting in order to be successful. Many universities and other education providers, however, still do not recognise the importance of equipping their learners with the right attitude, competencies and tools to identify, develop and exploit opportunities. Addressing the above mentioned gap, the CIAKL II (Cinema and industry alliance for knowledge and learning II) project was set up, with the main objective being to create, organise and disseminate material for entrepreneurship education in creative industries. As part of this project, the 2015 CMB conference aims to promote entrepreneurship education in creative industries and facilitate the discussion on how to best tackle the challenge of further integrating business thinking in the sector and increase the likelihood of business success. We would like to encourage you to actively participate in the discussions and use the conference day for networking and generating new opportunities. We hope you acquire new knowledge, develop your competencies and meet new people. There are many people to thank for making this conference a reality, including the organising committee, the review committee, all CIAKL II project partners as well as the international filmschule köln which opens the doors to their beautiful building for us. We are very much looking forward to fruitful discussions and wish you a successful conference and a pleasant stay in Cologne. Professor Thomas Baaken Co-chair of the conference Dr. Thorsten Kliewe Co-chair of the conference 4

9 ABOUT THE CIAKL II PROJECT ABOUT CIAKL II Cinema and Industry Alliance for Knowledge and Learning is a project co-funded by the European commission under the programme Knowledge Alliances. CIAKL II addresses the need to foster business and entrepreneurship skills in students and professionals in higher education while considering the challenge of aligning industry s needs and expectations with academia s creativity and innovation potential. Pragmatically, this initiative aims both at delivering the resources to be used when promoting business and entrepreneurship skills and a brokering platform bridging the gap between industry s demands and academia s potential. OBJECTIVES The expected results of this project are an objective and measurable increase of the integration of academic and professional skills produced, an increase in teachers and staff mobility between consortium organizations, the production and dissemination of teaching materials on entrepreneurship and innovation between consortium members and the actual provision of b-learning based training and the design of dedicated curricula and content. LATEST TECHNOLOGIES. The creation of a cross European network of schools and organizations focused on promoting entrepreneurship teaching and research in the areas of arts and media and in reinforcing the linkage between training in these areas and the promotion of new business and activities in the areas of the creative industries. GREAT NETWORK. The production of training and research resources and materials dealing with entrepreneurship and arts. The aggregation around this network of a set of relevant schools, organizations and experienced professionals and academics that deal with entrepreneurship in the fields of the arts and media. NEW OPPORTUNITIES. The association between the seminars to be implemented and the materials to be produced and disseminated. STAY IN TOUCH. The reinforcement of the importance of the Creative Industries to the economic and social development in Europe. CIAKL II GOALS AND STRATEGIES INNOVATIVE IDEAS. The reinforcement of entrepreneurship as a relevant subject in the domains of arts and media disciplines. SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS. The introduction and teaching of entrepreneurship at the higher education level in the areas of arts and media in Europe. The bridging of the gap between art s skillsets and business skillsets. 11
