2 Dear Friends, 2 On behalf of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, I am pleased to invite you to Parma for the next Summer School to be held in October from 3 rd to 6 th. Parma is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, rich in history, traditions, art, music and culture. It is situated in Emilia Romagna, mid-way between Milan and Bologna. It is proud of its historical city centre and has monuments of particular importance, from roman to liberty style. Parma is the capital of Italy s famous food valley where Prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese reign supreme. Although a relatively small city, Parma boasts one of the oldest universities in the world and it is well-suited to a scientific event such as the Summer School. It is in Parma that for 30 years our team has been working in the field of paediatric digestive endoscopy. The scientific program of the Summer School comprises many lectures, discussion of clinical cases, practical exercises with experimental models. The focus will be on different facets of surgical and medical endoscopy including management / avoidance of complications, emerging technologies, and innovative uses of existing technologies. Practical clinical approaches as well as advanced techniques in pancreaticobiliary and endoluminal therapeutic endoscopy will be presented. The topics will be illustrated by means of edited video s whereas the state of the art lectures are concluded with recommendations or guidelines. In order to further enhance interaction, we have extended presentation and discussion times. We hope you enjoy the scientific agenda and take pleasure in the delights of the social programme.
