3 Town Government Civics 101 Learn more about our municipal government by attending Civics 101, a seven-week citizen s academy designed to educate, inform and entertain residents interested in learning more about the functions of our town. This free program is open to Davidson residents and residents of Davidson s extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) who are 18 and older. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss departmental functions and operations with town department heads, tour the fire and police departments, learn about town history from Davidson College s archivist, and take part in a personalized question-and-answer session with the board of commissioners. Boards and Commissions There are numerous boards and commissions on which citizens may serve including the Design Review Board, the Greenways, Bikeways and Trails Advisory Board, the Natural Assets Committee, the Public Art Commission, the Planning Board, and the Recreation advisory committee. 4 Trash Collection & Recycling Republic Services: The pick-up schedule is as follows: Wednesdays: Curbside pick-up of trash, yard debris and recycling For a roll-out garbage cart or recycling bin or to report service problems, call Republic Services at For residents in the ETJ: Ross Sanita on: Recycling The following items may be recycled: Glass containers (without lids) Aluminum so drink cans Tin or steel cans Newspapers and adver sing supplements Magazines Plas c bo les (for so drinks, milk, etc., codes 1,2,3,4,5,7) Liquor bo les (no tops) Spiral paper Cardboard boxes must be broken down and not larger than 3 x3 No paint or aerosol cans Republic Services does not pick up recycling bins at condominium complexes or apartments, but materials can be dropped off in the bins located behind the Davidson Village Inn off Jackson and Depot Streets. Other Recycling and Garbage Op ons There is a Mecklenburg County Recycling Center on Highway 21, south of Huntersville, that will accept other trash and recyclables, such as: Cardboard Paper trash Construc on materials Ma resses Paint cans Electronics Pes cides The center is open Monday through Saturday from 7am 4pm. You must separate your trash and place it in large metal containers at the recycling center. Note: Recycled mulch is also available for pick up at the site for a very reasonable cost. Get prices at the recycling center.

McKinney Academy: Private school, K through 5. Pine Lake Preparatory: Charter school, K through 12. Woodlawn School: Private school, K through 12.
6 Vehicle Registration In the case of new residents, you must register your motor vehicle at the expiration of the time granted by reciprocity agreement between North Carolina and your prior state of residence (usually 30 days) or when gainful employment is accepted, whichever occurs first. You must present a valid North Carolina Driver s License or a North Carolina Identification Card to register a vehicle in North Carolina. Valid driver s licenses from other states may be accepted for vehicle registrations with documentation of the following: Military active duty stationed in NC College enrollment in a NC school Vehicle garaged in NC for a minimum of 6 months Court-ordered sale of a vehicle; Vehicle is co-owned Registration for a motor home Documented medical condition For information on how to get your North Carolina Driver License visit the Driver Service website or visit an office.
