24 Internship Internship enables students to gain industrial exposure in a local company. Through internship, you may: Acquire real-life working experience Sharpen your technical and interpersonal skills Build valuable networks with professionals from the industry Gain competitive advantage upon graduation Summer Internship 2 to 3 months starting from June Extended Internship 7 to 15 months starting from June or January Students who opt for Extended Internship can apply for study leave Please pay attention to announcements and visit the ECE website, SENG internship database, and Career Center website for internship openings

25 Design Competition A lot of our students (more than 100 students each year) participated in different design competitions, even when they are in year 1 or year 0. E.g. Robocon, Hong Kong Youth Design Competition Do not need to tie with your SGA/CGA Recent years, a lot of focus on how to use technology to help the needed people in the society, e.g. the elderly, the disabled. 25

31 Danger of U Study Pace of study is fast: homework every week, lab sessions every other week, quiz/test every month, midterm on the 7 th or 8 th week, final on the 15 th week If you miss one week of work, you may not be able to catch up with the lecture and lose confidence and interest Need to decide add/drop within two weeks Many students have time management problem the first day they arrived Students easily get lost
