1 TEACHER, ALTERNATIVE SCHLS PHYSICAL EDUCATIN AND E-LEARNING PRGRAMS JB SUMMARY Under the direction of the department manager, provide an effective and appropriate educational program for assigned students with special needs and circumstances, which may include incarcerated youth, pregnant and parenting minors, and high-risk students; work collaboratively with pupils, parents, support staff, administrators, agencies and community groups to enhance educational opportunities for students with social, communicative, behavioral and learning challenges; and do other related work as required. This position involves teaching in a very restrictive environment. The assignment may be at J. C. Montgomery School, Kings Community School, or at a designated site for other alternative education programs offered by the County ffice of Education. REQUIRED QUALIFICATINS Knowledge of: Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation; Methodologies, techniques and practices used to address the educational and emotional needs of incarcerated youth, pregnant and parenting minors, and high-risk students; Strategies for the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention plans; California physical education model content standards and frameworks; (inal) National Standards for online teaching and (ISTE) NETS (National Educational Technology Standards); Independent study program laws, policies, procedures, methodologies and requirements; Applicable directives, standards, procedures, policies, rules, regulations, codes, laws and guidelines; Processes involved with the referral of students for special education services. Ability to: Teach physical education skills and curriculum to students of varying age groups and with diverse needs; Effectively maintain an effective elearning environment; Implement and deliver high quality online and computer-based curriculum and blended learning instructional models to effectively support assigned students needs; Be flexible and open to change to a 21 st Century learning environment; Assess student understanding of learning objectives, responding to students questions and concepts they are finding most challenging; Create and facilitate group discussions using the LMS; Evaluate student success with the online or blended format and digital content; Make constant adjustments to course resources and tools (including LMS, , video, threading, web 2.0 tools, etc.); Demonstrate an understanding, patient, respectful and receptive attitude toward high-risk students of varied age groups; Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults contacted in the course of work; Understand, carry out and communicate oral and written directions; 1

2 Establish and maintain good working relationships with educators, administrators and support staff, and staff from other agencies such as the Probation Department, Juvenile Hall, Social Services, the County Health Department, and community based organizations; Maintain accurate records and files, and prepare documents and reports; Be flexible and receptive to change; Attend in-service training, conferences and meetings, as needed. Education and Experience: A BA/BS degree in a related field is required. Extensive successful experience providing services for high-risk students is highly desirable. Experience in Special Education is also desirable. Experience in blended elearning instructional (9-12) highly desirable. License, Certificate and Testing Requirements: Possess or be eligible to apply for an appropriate, valid California Teaching Credential. Hold a CLAD or El Authorization. Certification in elearning as an online and blended teacher. Special Education credential/authorization also highly desirable. Possess a valid California driver license and maintain insurability. Must be able to provide your own reliable transportation to work sites within Kings County. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Under the direction of the department manager, design and implement individual learning programs for assigned students leading to high school graduation or equivalent, in accordance with all directives, standards, procedures, policies, laws, rules, regulations, codes and guidelines; Coordinate and run a physical education program at Alternative Education sites, including regular physical education instruction and administration of the STAR PFT (Physical Fitness Test); Apply primary concepts and structures of effective online instruction to create learning experiences that enable student success; Use a range of technologies, both existing and emerging, to effectively support student learning and engagement in the online and classroom environment; Teach, model, guide and encourage legal, ethical and safe behavior related to technology use; Plan, design and incorporate strategies to encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation and collaboration in the online/blended environment; Establish and maintain a sanitary, safe, orderly, attractive and positive learning environment; Initiate referrals for special education services, as appropriate; Keep an accurate accounting of pupil attendance in a school register, and implement procedures mandated by the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) for the documentation of truancies; Maintain accurate records and other required data, prepare student transcripts for mailing to school districts of residence, and submit reports in a timely manner; Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality; Serve as a resource to provide formal and informal training, guidance and assistance to students, educators, parents, service providers and agencies, as needed; Keep current with issues, laws and regulations regarding positive behavior interventions, special education, educational trends, and other issues related to high-risk youth; Perform other related duties, as assigned. 2
