1 SIT30713 Certificate III in Hospitality COURSE GUIDE
2 Course Description This qualification is for people wanting to enter the hospitality industry. It provides training in the core functional areas of hospitality with a specialization in food and beverage service. Structure and Duration The course is structured into three components, classroom, online training and work experience. Step 1: Classroom Training The classroom training days are held at Wollongong (Illawarra leagues club). There are four classes, held on the following days: Monday 23rd June am to 5pm Wednesday 25th June am to 5pm Monday 30th June am to 5pm Tuesday 1st July am to 5pm Attendance at all four classroom days is compulsory. Your place in the course may be forfeited if this attendance is not met. Step 2: Online Training The remainder of the course is completed online. You are provided with a login to our Cloud College system, where you can watch videos, download ebooks, chat to your classmates and trainer and complete assessments. The online classroom opens Monday 23 June 2014 and closes Friday 19th December All assessment tasks are due by this date
3 Step 3: Work Experience To obtain this qualification you must undertake 100 hours of work experience in the hospitality industry. This can be at a bar, café, restaurant, club, hotel or any other hospitality sector. If you have worked in the hospitality industry within the past two years you do not need to undertake work experience, providing you can supply evidence of completing 100 hours of employment in a hospitality workplace within the past two years. This could be by submitting payslips or a letter from your previous employer. If you need to undertake work experience, we assist with finding a suitable employer willing to provide you with a work experience opportunity. Please note, work experience is generally unpaid as you are an additional person to the workplace, not a staff member. Work experience is often a great way to gain employment at the workplace, use the 100 hours of work experience to show the manager what a great team member you would be! 4 Entry Requirements As there are limited places in this course entry to this course is merit based. Phone interviews and in person interviews will be conducted to select successful candidates. Selection criteria includes: Must be Australian citizen or permanent resident. Must be seeking employment in the hospitality industry. Must be available to attend the four classroom training days. Must have access to a computer and internet to be able to undertake the online training component. Must be willing to undertake 100 hours of work experience (or present evidence of 100 hours of employment within the hospitality industry within the past two years). Possesses a commitment to undertake the required course work to complete the course.
