College of Arts and Science Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)

Oakland University Undergraduate Research Research participation by undergraduates is a distinctive part of Oakland University's research opportunities. Many of our students work with departmental faculty in their laboratories, carrying out research projects at the forefront of scientific research. Undergraduates often publish their research in national and international peer reviewed journals as well as present work at national meetings of scientific societies.

As future Oakland University students, you may be eligible to apply for several fellowships as part of your academic advancement.

Summer Undergraduate Research Programs A unique opportunity to conduct independent research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor Provides a worthwhile research experience Provides an extremely valuable addition to the student's education Generates important new results in science

Summer Undergraduate Research Programs Research is offered in several scientific disciplines (chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biomedical, and physics) Takes place in spring/summer sessions between May and August 10 to12 week fellowships $3,500 - $4000 stipends All require applicant s GPA to be 3.0 or above

Fellowships available to Undergraduates Dershwitz Research Fellowship Major in chemistry or biochemistry OU undergraduate sophomore year funded by an endowment established by Alumni Award winner Mark Dershwitz, M.D., Ph.D. Kelly Biomedical Research Fellowship Biomedical research Undergraduate science majors at any stage of their college career Funding established by Kelly Scientific

Fellowships available to Undergraduates Thompson Summer Research Fellowship Major in chemistry or biochemistry OU undergraduate sophomore year funded by an Endowment established by Ronald Bennett and Alumni Award winner Janet Bennett, Ph.D. Merck/AAAS Science Research Program Interdisciplinary biology and chemistry OU undergraduate sophomore year Funding established by the Merck Institute for Science Education

Oakland University Department of Physics Summer Materials and Research Training (SMaRT) Are you highly motivated, hard working and curious about what it takes to pursue a career in science? Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Students will work one-on-one with a research mentor on a project related to materials physics-measurements and modeling Each student will receive a stipend of $4,000 for the ten-week program

Oakland University Department of Physics Summer Materials and Research Training (SMaRT) We invite applicants from high school seniors, community colleges, colleges and university undergraduates to participate A 10 week program from May 28 to August 3, 2007 Application deadline: March 30, 2007 For additional information and application details, please visit: /smart/
