1 Introduction Dokumentnamn: Site Survey Verification MAH AddPro AB has conducted a Site Survey Verification of floor 4 in the building Orkanen held by Malmö Högskola to review the changes made in accordance with the Site Survey performed during the summer of This report is to compare the WLAN based on the same prerequisite as the last report and conclude the result. 1.1 Contact Information This Site Survey was performed by: Martin Johansson AddPro AB Stenbärsgatan Malmö martin.johansson@addpro.se Scope of Survey Site Survey is a method used to collect data from present Wi-Fi Access Point to determine coverage, signal to noise ratios, co-channel interference and Access Point placements in the existing Wi-Fi Environment. Spectrum analysis is a tool to identify none interferences caused by other equipment or environment. 1.3 Validity The validity of this report is based on todays and the days of the site surveys current situation. If there is any changes made to current environment or infrastructure it could affect the conclusions of this report and must so be taken into account. Sida 3 (8)
Dokumentnamn: Dokumentansvarig: Version: Klassificering: Utgivningsdatum: 2 Site Survey Verification MAH Martin Johansson 1.0 Externt den 18 mars 2013 Report 2.1 Coverage Attached below is 2,4Ghz and 5.0 GHz showing the current (date of survey) coverage. 2,4 Ghz 5,0 Ghz Sida 4 (8)
Dokumentnamn: Dokumentansvarig: Version: Klassificering: Utgivningsdatum: 2.2 Site Survey Verification MAH Martin Johansson 1.0 Externt den 18 mars 2013 Signal Strength vs. Signal to Noise ration S/N Below is the current (date of site survey) S/N ratio. 2,4 Ghz 5,0 Ghz Sida 5 (8)
3 Notes Dokumentnamn: Site Survey Verification MAH 3.1 Signal Strength The signal strength is now between 35 and 65 dbi throughout 98% of the floor which is to consider nominal. 3.2 Signal to Noise ratio The Signal to Noise ratio is now between 30 and 55 dbi throughout 95% of the floor which is good. 3.3 Spectrum None RF disturbances were not measured during this survey as the area remain unchanged regarding installation of other systems or products that could interfere. 3.4 Number of AP The number of Aps has been increased by about 25-30% compared to before. Overall the AP count is high in my experience for covering this area. The Signal Strength of this model of AP is lower than, from what my experience gives, one would expect requiring an increase in Access Points. 3.5 Interference The interference has increased as a toll for adding sufficient coverage to all parts of the floor. This will provide slower overall throughput but in this case is necessary to provide sufficient coverage to the area. 3.6 Other WLAN There is still an ESSID present on Floor 5 called Perspective Free WiFi that is provided by another set of APs from another manufacturer. This contributes a lot to Co-Channel interference especially since its communication is on odd channels as Channel 4 and Channel 13 which is not recommended. See Signal Strength from this WLAN below: 3.7 Possition of AP All AccessPoints are changed to be mounted in accordance with best practice for signal propagation. This meaning the position, height and direction of the AP. Sida 6 (8)
4 Summary Dokumentnamn: Site Survey Verification MAH It is my opinion that under the current circumstances the Wireless LAN at floor 4 Orkanen Malmö Högskola is planned in accordance with Best Practice of Wireless regardless of choice in manufacturer if disregarding the WLAN with ESSID Perspective Free WiFi. The survey shows that recommended levels regarding Signal Coverage and S/N ratio are meet. The amount of APs required to provide adequate coverage is higher than I expected comparing my experience using other product vendors. The amount of APs is also higher then when customer upgraded from their old b/g network even tough n is considered to provide atleast the same or better range as it uses MIMO technology. Sida 7 (8)
