2 Workig with a K2 Media Server Overview Avid Iterplay Trasfer supports igest ad sed to playback of SD ad HD media usig the FTP protocol to ad from a Grass Valley K2 media server. A complete ed-to-ed workflow for Log GOP XDCAM HD assets is available usig either a Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream device, a Omeo, or a Grass Valley K2 media server. Log GOP XDCAM HD media is igested ad available for editig usig a Avid editig applicatio, ad the you use Sed to Playback to sed the OP1a file to a supported device for playback. The MPEG stream is XDCAM compliat. This documet covers the workflow for the Grass Valley K2 media server. It also covers SD media. Durig a igest operatio, OP1A MXF streams are set usig FTP to the Iterplay Trasfer egie from a K2 server. The stream is read ad parsed by appropriate Iterplay Trasfer s Geeric FTP modules ad the stored i a Avid Uity ISIS shared storage eviromet. Durig a sed to playback operatio, the media is read from Avid Uity ISIS shared storage eviromet ad multiplex ito OP1A MXF streams, that are set to a specified target playback device or server usig FTP. 3 Importat Iformatio Iformatio About FTP Server Profiles The FTP server profile cofiguratios vary depedig o whether it is used for igestig or sed to playback ad with SD (IMX) or HD (Log GOP) media formats. Typically, oe FTP profile is created for a K2 igest ad oe or several FTP profiles are created for sed to playback to a target K2 server. By creatig separate FTP profiles for igest ad playback you avoid accidetally overwritig existig media o the K2 server. For better performace, Avid recommeds usig the K2 s high performace etwork coectio. Whe creatig a FTP Server Profile use <K2 server host ame>_he0 for the Server Name, whereas, <K2 server host ame>_he0 is the desigated Gigabit Etheret Jumbo etwork NIC address for the K2 server. <K2 server host ame>_he0 is the K2 Media Server s FTP ad streamig etwork IP address, ot the K2 Media Cliet s IP address. Do ot use the K2 Cotrol NIC for FTP trasfer, igest or set to playback, because it is typically of lower badwidth ad used maily for K2 metadata cotrol purpose. Iformatio About Sed to Playback Before usig Sed to Playback to trasfer items to a K2 media server, from a Avid editig applicatio, make sure the followig coditios are met to prevet a trasfer failure: The receivig target FTP directory o the K2 server must be cofigured ad the privileges set to support acceptig icomig OP1A MXF media stream. The Sed to Playback Tape ID must be alphaumeric characters. The maximum legth of a ame is 32 characters with o iterveig spaces ad o dots. characters. The FTP directory must be a K2 clip bi created by the K2 server s APPCeter GUI. You ca ot use a directory created by a direct FTP mkdir commad. 4 Iformatio About Igestig Whe igestig live media from a K2 media server ad the target media is also beig recorded or trasferred from aother K2 media server, the K2 media server delays ay data beig trasferred by 20 secods. This delay is set by the K2 media server policy. Therefore, you should let eough media material accumulate before attemptig to use Avid s FTP Media Browser to egage ay igest. Whe performig a Geeric FTP igest, the audio is limited to 8 tracks ad PCM-based oly. Dolby E is ot supported. Whe a K2 media server is simultaeously performig several activities, such as captures, igests, ad trasfers, the K2 FTP might become uresposive whe the FTP Media Browser attempts to read the MXF header bytes from a K2 source MXF file. The K2 FTP capabilities are limited to 4 ogoig FTP streams. You might see a error message such as Caot read requested bytes due to this coditio. Whe creatig FTP Server Profiles for Sed to Playback ad Igest make sure the Default Directory text box cotais differet locatios for the playback ad igest media to avoid accidetally overwritig the media. The setup ad cofiguratio for workig with Log GOP XDCAM HD assets with a K2 media server are similar to the procedures described i the Cofigurig Capture ad Playback of MXF DHM OP1a File Formats i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. K2 Audio Tracks Igest Limitatios c Whe you are igestig MXF audio tracks ito a Avid workgroup eviromet usig Avid Geeric FTP igest, each o-moo chael tracks are first demuxed ito its costituet sequetial moo chael tracks. Oly the first 8 sequetial moo-chael tracks are later igested as OpAtom audio files. If tracks are already moo-chael i ature, they are igested as it is, subject to the 8 track limit. Origial tracks i moo-chael are directly igested with 8 tracks, the defied track limit. Ay o-pcm tracks must be wrapped as a pseudo-pcm MXF track to be igested, because o-pcm-based material is ot supported. All the MXF audio essece tracks are expected to have the same chael couts per track. For example, moo-chael, bi-chael, etc. Per track, mixed chael cout across MXF audio tracks is ot supported. After igestig o-pcm audio tracks, do ot edit or mixdow ay of the o-pcm audio tracks, because this leads to destructio ad o-recoverable audio tracks. 4

5 Importat Iformatio For example: A Op1A MXF file cotais 1 video track, with 8 moo-chael PCM (16 bits or 24 bits) tracks at 48kHz. Igest results: All 8 moo-chael PCM audio tracks are igested. A Op1A MXF file cotais 1 video track, with 16 moo-chael PCM (16 bits or 24 bits) tracks at 48kHz. Igest results: Oly the first sequetial 8 moo-chael PCM audio tracks are igested. The rest of the tracks are igored. A Op1A MXF file cotais 1 video track, with 4 moo-chael PCM (16 bits or 24 bits) tracks at 48kHz ad 2 Dolby-E pairs wrapped as pseudo-pcm (for a total of equivalet of 8 moo-chael tracks). Igest results: All 8 moo-chael tracks are igested, with the first 4 tracks as moo-chael PCM ad the last 4 tracks as pseudo-pcm tracks. K2 User Accouts ad Folder Permissios Before you ca igest or use Sed to Playback with a K2 media server you eed to create a user accout o the K2 media server ad set the correct permissios o the igest ad playback folders. For complete details, see the Thomso Grass Valley documetatio. The K2 media server provides two user accouts: mfxmovie used with MXF format files. Whe you use this accout, you ca create ay folder structure o the K2 media server that meets your eeds. movie used with GXF format files. Avid does ot support the GXF format, therefore do ot use the movie user accout. You ca also choose to use ay ame you wat whe creatig a user accout o the K2 server. However, you must create top level folders with the ame MXF to idetify that the files i the MXF folder are MXF format. These folders must have the correct permissios to allow the trasfers to complete. 5

6 Whe creatig a user accout usig ay ame, you must create the followig folders: <drive>:/mxf/<sed to playback> Set the user permissio for the sed to playback folder to allow read ad write. <drive>:/mxf/<igest> Set the user permissio for the igest folder to allow read oly. 8 Check List for Addig a K2 Server for Playback Whe addig a K2 server to your workgroup for usig Sed to Playback, you eed to cofigure the Iterplay Trasfer settigs ad create a FTP server profile. SD Op1A MXF are geerated by Geeric FTP DHM modules. The HD Log GOP MXF are geerated by the Avid editig applicatio s DET modules. The Op1A MXF are trasferred to a target K2 server differetly. Therefore, they are cofigured differetly as specified below. Task Descriptio Read the importat iformatio sectio before addig a K2 media server to your workgroup. See Importat Iformatio o page 2. Setup the K2 media server. See Check List for K2 Media Server Setup o page 7. Create a FTP server profile for the K2 server ad the type of media you wat to playback. I the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Tool, i the Playback area, select Playback trasfers eabled. Do ot select Log GOP trasfers eabled, because this optio is oly used with the Avid MediaStream server. See Cofigurig a FTP Server Profile for Playback to K2 Server o page 9. SD IMX media oly I the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Tool, add the K2 server to the Playback list. For HD XDCAM Log GOP formats it is ot ecessary to add the K2 server to the Playback list as this happes automatically whe settig up a profile for HD formats. HD XDCAM Log GOP oly I the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio Tool, i the Dyamically Extesible Trasfers (DET) area, select DET eabled. 9 Cofigurig a FTP Server Profile for Playback to K2 Server Cofigurig a FTP Server Profile for Playback to K2 Server Whe addig a K2 server to your workgroup eviromet, you eed to create a FTP server profile for the K2 server s FTP parameters. The profile settigs vary depedig o whether you are workig with SD (IMX) media or HD (XDCAM Log GOP) media. With HD media you ca create separate profiles for each format that you wat to use with a Sed to Playback. After you create a profile of the FTP parameters for the FTP server, you caot edit the Profile Name, Default Directory, or FTP Mode settigs. If you eed to chage these settigs, you eed to create a ew profile for the FTP server. To create a K2 server profile for usig Sed to Playback: 1. O your Iterplay Trasfer server, click the Start butto, ad select All Programs > Avid > Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio. The Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box opes. 2. Click the Cofigure FTP Parameters butto. The FTP Cofiguratio dialog box opes. If the Cofigure FTP Parameters butto is ot available, Iterplay Trasfer Egie with Supplemetal FTP Services was ot selected as the istallatio type whe the Iterplay Trasfer Egie applicatio was istalled. You eed to reistall the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie software. 9

Eter the setup iformatio for the K2 server ad type of media. - See Settigs for FTP Server Profile for Playback of HD (XDCAM Log GOP) Media o page See Settigs for FTP Server Profile for K2 Server Playback of SD Media o page Click OK to close the FTP Server dialog box. 6. The format must be supported by the target K2 server ad must match the target resolutio specified ad supported by the Avid editig applicatio. This makes the profile available to the Iterplay Trasfer cliets. To add a igest FTP Server profile to the Iterplay Trasfer Egie cofiguratio: 1. O the Iterplay Trasfer server, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio. The Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio dialog box opes. 2. I the Igest area, click Add. The Igest Device dialog box opes. 3. Type the ame of the FTP Server profile associated with the K2 media server. 4. Click OK. 17

The FTP Directory Profile must cotai the same coectio iformatio as the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio settigs. The Avid FTP Media Browser applicatio is used for igest from FTP servers. To create ad edit FTP directory profiles: 1. From the Avid editig system, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Utilities > Avid FTP Media Browser. The Avid - FTP Media Browser applicatio opes. Whe K2 media displays i the Avid - FTP Media Browser widow the file extesio.mxf does ot display i the list. Also the Size colum uses fields istead of MB. 18

Type the cofiguratio iformatio for the FTP server, makig sure your etries match the FTP server s etwork settigs.
