1 Cisco 5500 Series Wireless Controller Licensing and Ordering Guide The Cisco 5500 Series Wireless Controller is a highly scalable and flexible platform that enables systemwide functions for mission-critical wireless in medium-sized to large enterprises and campus environments. Designed for n performance and maximum scalability, the 5500 Series can support 12, 25, 50,100 or 250 for businesscritical wireless services at locations of all sizes. The 5500 Series offers upgrade s so that additional access point support and software features can be added as your wireless network evolves. The 5500 Series can be ordered with a standard software set or with premium WirelessPLUS (WPLUS) software. WPLUS software supports the OfficeExtend solution for secure, mobile teleworking. WPLUS software also supports Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) data encryption for added security across remote WAN/LAN links and enterprise wireless mesh, which allows to dynamically establish wireless connections in locations where it may be difficult or impossible to physically connect to the wired network. When ordering with either the standard feature set or WPLUS SKUs, no additional licensing steps are necessary after the receipt of equipment. All necessary s for access point support are factory installed, and s and product authorization keys (PAK) are preregistered to the serial numbers. The only instance where an upgrade would be required is when adding support for additional or upgrading from the standard software feature set to WPLUS. See the Software Upgrade Licenses section for more details.
