1 EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Alternative Teacher Certification Program Weatherford College (WC) offers individuals with content appropriate backgrounds an opportunity to complete requirements for Texas Teacher Standard Certification. These candidates must hold a Bachelor s degree with at least an overall 2.5 GPA and a subject area (for the subject that they plan to teach) of 2.5 and meet all other requirements of the program. The WC Alternative Teacher Certification Program (TCP) is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification. The Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities tuition of $800 must be paid in full at the time of registration. The remaining $2700 may be paid at the beginning of each class. Once you are accepted into the program, you have up to three years to complete all required coursework. *Troops to Teachers and Military Spouse Career Advancement grants may be available to qualified applicants. Because the name based information is not an exact search and only fingerprint record searches represent true identification to criminal history, the organization (as listed above) conducting the criminal history check is not allowed to discuss any information obtained using this method, therefore the agency may offer the opportunity to have a fingerprint search performed to clear any misidentification based on the name search, if the search provides a criminal report I know could not be mine. For the fingerprinting process I will be required to submit a full and complete set of my fingerprints for analysis through the Texas Department of Public Safety AFIS (automated fingerprint identification system). I have been made aware that in order to complete this process I must have the correct fingerprinting (FAST) form from this agency, make an online appointment, submit a full and complete set of my fingerprints, and pay a fee to the fingerprinting services company, L1 Enrollment Services. Once this process is completed and the agency receives the data from DPS, the information on my fingerprint criminal history may be discussed with me. The WC Catalog advises students pursuing the Associate of Arts in Teaching that the background check is required and that the State Board for Educator Certification may refuse to issue a teaching certificate based on criminal history.
