2 CHANGE A LIFE THROUGHOUT EAST AFRICA MANY VULNERABLE CHILDREN ARE BEING DEPRIVED OF AN EDUCATION. From an early age, children have to work fetching water, carrying firewood or digging in the field. Often water is dirty, food is scarce and the constant threat of disease makes their lives unbearably hard. In addition to this a further tragedy is that children cannot reach their full potential due to a lack of an education and being able to attend a school where they are nurtured and developed in a loving environment. Given the opportunity to go to school, these children develop skills that enable them to break out of the cycle of poverty and hardship. Fields of Life assist local communities by firstly constructing schools and providing technical support and guidance on governance, complimented by further support in the form of a quality education programme which seeks to raise educational standards. Our Child Sponsorship programme ensures the most vulnerable children are identified and provided with the assistance necessary for them to attend school and receive an education. WHY SPONSOR A CHILD WITH FIELDS OF LIFE? Sponsoring a child with Fields of Life enables you to play a significant role in shaping his/her future. You will be able to follow the progress of your sponsored child as they advance through their education in the knowledge that you are positively effecting change in the life of one child. By becoming a Fields of Life sponsor, you not only impact your sponsored child s life, but you also impact the family, community and the school which the child attends. The Fields of Life sponsorship programme adopts a community based approach which not only enables sponsored children to attend school but also underpins the sustainability of the wider school community, thus positively impacting on many other children. At Fields of Life we are passionate not just about providing access to education but we seek to deliver the highest possible standards of education. Our quality education programme empowers and supports all the Fields of Life school communities through intentional teacher training and development therefore ultimately benefiting all the children in our school network throughout East Africa.

3 WHAT DO I RECEIVE? Initially, you will receive a pack containing some background information and photographs of your sponsored child and family. On an ongoing basis you will receive 2 letters per year as well as an African Christmas Card from the child you sponsor. Although some of the little ones are too young to write or form sentences in English, they make up for it with enthusiastic and colourful artwork. LETTER SYSTEM We have included a tick box on the Sponsorship Direct Debit form, if this is ticked and your address is provided, we can your child s letter electronically in order to reduce postage costs. HOW FAR DOES MY MONEY GO? 4 HOW DOES IT WORK? Simply complete the attached Direct Debit form. Payment options are 17 monthly or 204 annually per child through primary school. If the child progresses to secondary level education, the fees automatically increase to 24 monthly or 288 annually. Advance notice will be given prior to any change in writing. Once the form has been completed and returned to the relevant office, the Child Sponsorship Co-ordinator will forward it to your bank/building society. CAN I WRITE TO MY SPONSORED CHILD? Yes, you can! Simply write a letter to: Fields of Life Sponsorship Team, P.O. Box 36388, Kampala, Uganda. Please make sure that it clearly states the sponsored child s name and the child s unique code. Be careful not to include your home address or any contact details in the letter. If you prefer you can now also write an to your sponsored child. Simply put your letter into an and send to hello@fieldsoflife.org. Make sure your sponsored child s full name and unique code is detailed in the subject line. Your full name and unique code should also be included in the . This will then be printed and delivered to your child by the Fields of Life East African team.

7 CAN I SEND A BIRTHDAY GIFT TO MY SPONSORED CHILD? You are able to send a birthday gift, however please note that Fields of Life will not accept responsibility for gifts that do not arrive. Postage can be erratic in Africa and sometimes parcels do not arrive. We advise sending an amount of 15 to the NI Head Office, who will then in turn allocate this money to the child. Our sponsorship team in East Africa will then purchase the designated birthday gift for the child. Cash donations should not be sent in the post. VISITING YOUR SPONSORED CHILD If you are travelling to Africa on a personal visit and you want to meet your sponsored child, please contact the Fields of Life office six weeks in advance of your trip. This will enable our sponsorship team in East Africa to organise your visit without any disappointments.
